Meet Carl the Maltese

Meet Carl!

If you are looking for a small, adorable boy that does great with other dogs and cats - this is your boy!

He loves to cuddle, give you kisses and will make you laugh all day with his goofy personality. He is very playful, he will play by himself or will play with his foster siblings. Carl is a very resilient boy and will wiggle his way right into your heart. We believe he's a Maltese mix and is about 3 and 3/4 years old.

One of his very favorite things is walk time! He would love to accompany you to a patio dinner, or comedy in the park. This sweet boy is still getting the hang of basic commands but with some patience and a loving home we know he will learn fast.

Carl does need an adopter who is able to support his special needs.
Carl has seizures, which we strongly suspect are due to epilepsy. Please read about that here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951440.

Epilepsy can be something a dog is born with, or it can be caused by past trauma to the head. It can be controlled, but not cured by seizure medication. Carl's new owner will need to be prepared to work closely with their own veterinarian to adjust doses of seizure medication if needed, and needs to be prepared for the costs of medication monitoring lab testing. A phone consultation with one of our volunteer veterinarians is included in Carl's adoption. He is well controlled on medication at this time. Well controlled does not imply there will be no seizures, but it means seizures are limited in frequency and duration. Carl's future family can work with their vet on cutting down his medication.

Don’t let his medical needs deter you, he is an incredibly sweet boy with so much to offer! Carl's adoption fee is $300 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, de-worming, current flea treatment, current vaccines for their age, and a vet exam. Northwest Animal Companions is an all-volunteer, non-profit foster-home based rescue. 100% of your adoption fee goes to provide for the medical and physical needs of the pets in our care.

Please head to our website to fill out an application prior to sending an inquiry or asking to set up a meeting. (See application at https://www.nwac-oregon.org/dog-application). Once your adoption application is approved, we will contact you to put you in touch with the foster family and volunteer veterinarian to ask any questions and then an in person meeting.

Please consider adding a donation to your adoption fee, as the demand for rescues to intake has never been greater and we have a number of medical cases we are supporting. Please let us know if you would be interested in fostering for us too!
