Meet Canelo

Canelo is a 1-year-old, 52-pound male shepherd / collie mix from Tijuana.

He has a luxurious fluffy soft coat and the cutest floppy ears. He is a playful, goofy, curious, loyal companion. Canelo is the perfect combination of gentle snuggles and bouncy puppy energy.

Since day one, always likes to come to you, ask for nose rubs, and maybe sneak a jump up on the couch.

He is not at all shy to make new friends with any human - big or small - or any dog friend inside. He has not been with cats in our care.

He loves chewing up his plush toys and having a good gnawing session on his super chewers. He likes to play fetch with the old tennis ball and bring it back for more.

While a little anxious at first when being left in his crate for night time, he has been making great progress on understanding when it's time to sleep for the night. He has been sleeping in a different room than his current foster dad to encourage his crate training.

He is a super smart boy and is definitely food and cuddle-motivated along.

His leash skills are improving. He likes to try to scavenge for food and sniff everything when walking down the street. With a focus lead, he is improving on his focus for walking. He could use some continued and supplemental leash training to help him learn city street manners.

He gets very excited when seeing other dogs on the street and will pull to try and say hello to make more play friends. His foster parent is working on his focus and respect of other dogs.

He is friendly with other dogs with a proper intro and has had a few rambunctious play sessions with the neighbor dog Milo. He would benefit from an adopter who will help him work on his manners to reroute his infectious puppy-ness into a more polite greetings.

Canelo has been excelling with his potty training skills and understanding his schedule for his business. Aside from 2 incidents in his crate that seemed to be due to separation anxiety on his first 2 days, he has been a really good boy inside. His adopters should maintain a consistent schedule to continue this.

He is good with kids, very patient and is not mouthy during play. Due to his size and playful nature we think that he would be a good fit for a family with older children as Canelo doesn't quite know his size and lacks spacial awareness when he zoomies.

Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and canine coronavirus. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Heartworm prevention due 04/12. Flea and tick prevention due 4/12.
