WEIGHT: 10lbs

DOGS: Yes

HISTORY:
Canelo was brought in to CRISP at CACC when his elderly owner was moving out of the country.

ABOUT:
Canelo is snuggly, and funny, and most certainly cute….but he is absolutely not athletic. Going up stairs and getting on the couch are team sports as far as Canelo is concerned. Translation of “team sport” - You’ve got to carry him up stairs and lift him up onto the couch. While he isn’t much for the indoor agility activities, Canelo does walk well on leash and especially as a pleasant road trip companion.

Canelo is being fostered with a small female dog and they get along well. He used to act out towards other dogs on leash outside the home, but he has improved greatly with this since he has been in his foster home and old neighborhood enemies have become good friends. He also did well when a large female dog spent some time in his foster home while her owner was on vacation. Canelo isn’t being fostered with any cats, but his foster mom thinks he might do OK in a home with cats as she doesn’t expect him to go out of his way to cause trouble.

Canelo is super sweet and lets his foster mom carry him around like a baby, but he sometimes does need a few moments to get comfortable with new people and environments. He seems to warm up to women a little faster then men, but he generally does fine with both. You can’t really blame the guy: When you’re only 10 lbs everyone is bigger than you, and thus scary. Canelo has done really well with children, but we expect he will do best in a more calm and predictable home without a ton of commotion. He even prefers to sleep in his crate at night instead of in bed with his foster mom.

Canelo’s ideal home will be one that is looking for a calm, cute, snuggly companion with few demands. He will make a great companion dog.
