This beautiful girl is looking for a home with a physically fenced in yard and companion dog in home for her to play and learn from.

Where's my family?! Canela, who we call Nella, is a gorgeous 14 mth old, retriever mix girl who weighs in at approximately 50 lbs. She is up to date on all of her vetting and is patiently waiting for a home to call her own.

We aren't sure what her life was like before she came to us, but we think someone may not have been very nice to her, as she is very shy. We don't know how anyone could ever treat her badly - this girl doesn't have a mean bone in her body! Watching her transformation in her foster home has been such an incredible experience. She has quickly learned that humans can be nice and is becoming increasingly playful, inquisitive, and affectionate. She absolutely loves other dogs and likes to run around and play with them. We think she would benefit from having a dog friend to help show her the ropes. One of her favorite things is playing chase in the yard. When she is inside, she is quiet, curious, and sweet. She likes to chew on a nyla bone, and like to follow people around to see what they are up to.

Nella is completely house trained and and crate trained, though she is also trustworthy when left free in a sectioned off area. Like almost all dogs, she loves to go for quiet walks (loud noises are still scary) and is doing great with her leash training progress. At night, Nella will sleep quietly on a dog bed right next to your bed.

Nella is still on the shy side and nervous meeting new people, but when you look into her big soulful brown eyes, it will be hard not to fall in love. She is looking for a family that will be patient and let her warm up and learn that people aren't scary.

While we know that she loves dogs, her reaction to cats is unknown. She does have high prey drive for birds and squirrels so might be best in cat free home. She is curious about kids, and we believe she would be fine with older or calm children, simply because she's so timid.

Nella will need time, patience, and understanding from her new family, but she is going to be such an amazing family member for her adopters!

6/16/22 UPDATE: Nella has come out of her shell and enjoys people and seeks affection now! She has learned to play fetch and loves to go for walks. She likes car rides (though she's still nervous once she gets to new places) and loves doggy ice creams! Her fosters adore her and say she is a doll!

All our dogs have been spayed/neutered; treated for worms; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 mths or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchip; and examined by veterinarian and given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed.
