Meet Calypso

Hi, my name is Calypso! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Silly, playful, affectionate, excitable, chow-hound
-Can Live with Kids: No, Calypso needs an adult-only home.
-Can Live with Cats: No, at this time, Calypso will need a cat-free home. She very likely has a high prey drive.
-Can Live with Dogs: No, when Calypso was first at the shelter in the end of 2020, she really enjoyed interacting with other dogs, and loved to romp around in our daily playgroups! Because she was not given any chances for good social interaction, or proper/adequate outlets for her energy in general, she has returned to us with poor social skills and is a very, very rude greeter. It's possible this behavior is just leash/barrier frustration, but we will need to observe further to make a more accurate assessment. At this time, we are recommending that Calypso be the only dog in the home.
-Can do Apartment Living: No, Calypso would greatly benefit from a large fenced yard. Because of her energy level and reactivity, an apartment setting would not be the best fit for her.
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, between 1-3 private lessons, depending on adopter experience
-Leash Trained: Yes
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No

Additional Information: Calypso is a happy pooch who loves everyone she meets. She has boundless puppy energy and needs a home that can help her harness it into constructive activities. Calypso is highly food-motivated and loves to learn new things. Daily training sessions would be very beneficial for her and will help her bond with her new family! Unfortunately, Calypso was adopted out last year to a family who did not set her up for success. She lived outside in a kennel 24/7, was not given any toys, and was not walked or exercised at all (she gained 30 lbs in 6 months!!) Calypso is understandably very confused and unsettled after this experience-- she wants all of your love and attention, and asks for it in inappropriate ways (jumping/mouthing). She will need a dedicated, patient adopter who can provide her with a steady, predictable routine, and remind her that she is a loved, valued member of the family! With continued training and lots of TLC, Calypso has a ton of potential to be a wonderful companion for many years to come.
