Terrified. Unsure. Confused. Wanting so badly to trust but not brave enough to try.
Calliope was caught in a trap 5 weeks ago and brought to the shelter. She came from an area we have become very familiar with through our outreach program with BOR and I’m almost certain I have spotted her from afar, fleeing before one can make eye contact. Which leads me to believe this girl has been a street dog for quite sometime prior to coming into the shelter.
Shortly after her arrival, we evacuated all the outdoor dogs in preparation of a tropical storm, she was one of them. Calliope went to foster and has been ever since.
She has been very timid. Keeping to herself a lot. Not understanding what this indoor living is all about and the people trying to make friends with her. But she too wants to so bad….just needs a small push to help slowly build her up as she wraps her head around life not being spent alone on the streets. Not having to fend for yourself or scavenge for food, water, dry spot to sleep with one eye open not knowing what will creep up on you. Thats a lot of changes for a dog who’s probably never had an opportunity to know kindness, love and safety.
Her foster mommy is also fostering one of our sick kitties, who’s on the mend now. And has lovingly introduced herself to Calioppe, in search of friendship!
Meet Persephone! A beautiful and sweet tabby who also in her very young life, did not have the greatest of beginnings.
For now, they both take comfort in each other, uplifting each other’s spirit and building a friendship between canine / feline with no limitations. ??
