Meet Buttercup

Hiya, I’m Buttercup! Maybe you've heard about me? A few months ago, I was seen roaming off a rural road with Ridge. It was clear I was hurt and we were both super thin. Nice humans spent days trying to catch us ‘cause they could tell needed help. And I’m so glad they did! I had a hurt leg…and diabetes! They truly saved us!

My front left elbow was out of its socket and had been that way for months. I may have been hit by a car, but it’s all so foggy and hard to recall. Vet says I’ve got some cartilage damage and will probably be arthritis the rest of my life, but I still love to explore the yard, hang out in the shade, and even get a good ear scratch every now and again. There’s still so much to love about life. As I become stronger over time, my muscle will build up a bit, too!

The vet said I also have diabetes or, as you humans sometimes call it, “the sugar.” Since I’ve got the sugar, I’ve gotta have meds 2x a day and regular food monitoring, which the animal shelter doesn’t have staff to handle. But maybe it worked out for the best ‘cause I got sent to a fabulous foster home where they’re taking care of me till I find my forever family! I hope I find one soon!

The humans here at my foster home say I’m not too needy. I don’t need a ton of attention. I’m not like a doggone puppy, after all! I’m just a grown dog who’s had a little medical misfortune, if you will. I’m quiet and easy going and get along with everyone, even baby kittens! I tolerate cats, kittens, and dogs fine as long as I’m fed in a separate space. All my foster momma has to do is feed me away from the other doggos so I don’t get too possessive of my meal. After all I’ve been through on the streets, I can be protective of my food, but who wouldn’t be? I nearly starved to death! Thank god they saved me. I'm still underweight, so my foster momma’s been giving me scrambled eggs and canned puppy food to help me put on the pounds.

Not only did you humans save me and get me into this safe place, but everyone continues to make sure all my needs are met. My care is being provided through Texas Critter Crusaders, who helped rescue me and put me here! When I go to my forever home, I’ll come with a couple month’s worth of insulin, my doggie bed, and the other supplies you'll need to keep me happy and healthy! How COOL is that?

Y’all, I’ve got so much to live for and I’m ready to start my NEW LIFE! With a solid routine, I’m a happy doggo with a new lease on life. So far, my favorite hobbies include exploring the yard at my foster home, taking lots of naps, and getting brushed by the humans. I also LOVE being talked to and can’t wait for a forever human of my own. I’d be a fantastic companion for a quiet household.

Just send a message to Texas Critter Crusaders if you wanna meet me or have any questions!
