Meet Butch

Animal Profile: Butch is an estimated 18 month old 45lb neutered male shepherd/pit mix (aka Texas Brown Dog) who joined us from Texas on 9/22. Butch is good with dogs and playful; he's still learning about boundaries so would do best with non-grumpy dogs. He is not aggressive just very playful. He hasn't been evaluated with cats or kids. He is very friendly, good on leash, and crate trained. We will share more about him as we get to know him in foster care.

Foster Update: Butch is settling into his PNW foster home and getting used to his new surroundings. He is friendly and social, responds well to people, and is still learning his name. He is pretty decent on leash, but does get distracted with most things around him. He is easy to redirect to his handler to continue his walk.

Butch does eat and drink very fast, probably a result of being a stray in Texas. He will need a slow feeder bowl and smaller amounts of water given more frequently during the day.

He is not a vocal dog, so he might do well in an apartment setting. The only time he does get vocal is to signal that he needs to use the restroom, a handy signal for us humans! He doesn't seem bother with noises outside either, so close living in an urban environment probably would be fine.

A perfect home for Butch would probably include older, dog savvy children since Butch does like to jump on people to greet them. He could live with or without another dog, but it is always a bonus if there's a balanced resident dog to help teach Butch to become his best doggy self. As mentioned before, he would probably do ok in an apartment as long as his mental and physical exercise needs are met each day.

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, negative heartworm test if over 6 months, and health certificate. Your donation may be tax deductible as DG is a 501c3 organization.
