Buddy's Story

Breed: Husky X Great Pyrenees
Age: 10 year
Weight: 77 lbs
Health Status: Neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped

Meet Buddy, a handsome 10-year-old Great Pyrenees cross who’s as charming as he is fluffy! Buddy is a seasoned gentleman with a big heart and an even bigger appetite. The key to winning him over? Treats! For a cookie or two, Buddy will happily become your best friend even sticking his whole face in your pocket just to make sure you’re not holding out on him.
Buddy loves his walks and enjoys spending time with people who appreciate his playful, food-loving personality. At 10 years old, we have discounted his adoption fee, but he’s still active enough to enjoy adventures but also knows how to relax and enjoy quieter moments.

Training Needs
Buddy has shown a mix of reactions around other dogs—sometimes friendly, sometimes indifferent, and occasionally not so keen. Because of this, his new adopter should be prepared to continue some gentle desensitization work to help him feel more comfortable around other dogs. He responds well to positive reinforcement and is very food-motivated, which makes training both fun and rewarding.

Health
Buddy has a touch of arthritis, which is currently managed with glucosamine supplements. Despite this, he remains a good walker and enjoys his daily outings. His blood work has been completed, and shows some anemia, we are working on improving his health with diet support and retesting bloodwork. His new adopter should be aware he may need ongoing support at the vet as he is fearful about procedures. He’s up to date on vaccinations, neutered, dewormed and microchipped.

New Home
Buddy is looking for a calm and caring home with no other dogs or possibly a very well-matched dog, and older children (14+) who will respect his space. We’re unsure how he feels about cats, so any introductions should be made carefully if applicable.
His ideal family will understand his needs, give him time to settle, and, of course, have a steady supply of tasty treats. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a big personality and an even bigger appetite, Buddy could be your perfect match!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready to Apply?

If you would like to meet Buddy, please download an application from our website at:

vancouver.ca/adoption-form

Then, email your complete application to: animal.shelter@vancouver.ca

If your application is approved, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.
Children: Yes 14+
Cats: Unknown
Dogs: Maybe but well matched only
Training Needs: Canine Socialization
Adoption Fee: $114

If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.

For more information on our adoption process, go to vancouver.ca/adopt
