DESCRIPTION: Buddy is a large (71 lbs.), lightly colored Golden Retriever who wandered into our yard and made himself at home. After some searching, we learned that his owner had a stroke and can no longer care for him. Buddy was a little on the skinny side but he is eating well and has bulked up a little. He is very gentle and loves children and other dogs. He is okay with the outdoor cats but growls at them when they get near his food bowl. We're not sure about indoor cats. He has been friendly to everyone he has met. He looks like an old dog, but acts like a young dog.

Buddy loves to ride in the car but gets so excited about it he needs to be slightly restrained for long rides. He likes playing fetch with a stick, ball or a toy. He also loves to play tug-of-war. He appears to have had some obedience training. He likes to take walks, but he does pull on the leash and he is very strong. He perked up after a bath and a good brushing! He loves to be brushed. He has lots of energy when playing, but is basically a calm and mellow dog. He is very inquisitive. He has two barks…low and loud when warning someone is coming, or higher pitched when he wants some attention.

Buddy loves lots of attention. He will pull every toy out of his toybox to entice you to play with him. He is very toy-motivated, but NOT treat-motivated. He is comfortable outdoors if there is enough stimulation for him, but he prefers to be indoors out of the rain and heat. His favorite place to lay is at your feet. He seems to have a little separation anxiety. He is terrified of thunder and tries to get in your lap when he hears loud thunder booms or gun shots. But most of the time he is happy on the floor, touching you. He has never tried to get on the furniture. He does know how to use a doggy door.
