Meet Buddy

COURTESY LISTING (Charlotte, NC) : Buddy was rescued by a dear friend of NMAR, and we are helping her navigate the process of finding him his Just-Right Home.  Please submit the NMAR adoption application if you are interested in being considered for adoption of Buddy.

Found running up and down the middle of  a busy road, chasing passing cars and begging for help...that is how Buddy started his current journey to his best life.  Luckily, the right person was driving down that road at the right time, and Buddy was saved from several possible options for a very bad ending!

Buddy is super cute, yet he is not for just anyone.  Given time, he becomes very comfortable with who he deems to be his people, but that might not be clear when he meets you for the first time.  He can be distrusting, and he is LITTLE, so his first reaction is that of fear and feeling threatened by humans SO much bigger than he is.  Typically, his first response is to try to keep you at bay in case you had any bad intentions of hurting him.  In the world of little dogs, that means snarky barks in your general direction, the evil eye, and some frantic running around to let you know he is one tough cookie.  Given his space and good old fashioned ignoring, Buddy will move on from his antics to find a toy, a snack, or some sprinting around the yard.   Given some days together, he will come to trust those that he is able to identify as Dog People.  Once that happens, get comfortable, as hours of cuddling will be on your To Do List.  You will also need to get used to being gazed upon as if the sun rises and sets upon your command.  But first, you must be willing and able to give Buddy the time he needs to get there.

Buddy is about 3 or 4 years old, 19 sturdy pounds, and appears to be a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix.  He is wonderful at crating, and enjoys time in his man cave. He is quite entertaining dashing all around his fenced yard and up and down the hallway.  He's smart and silly, and right up the alley of folks versed in the language of little dogs...especially in the dialect of Chihuahuas.   As with many little dogs, he requires a little extra attention and awareness to support his house-trained status...but Buddy has never had an accident in his appropriately-sized crate, even during a full work day for his rescuer.

As far as requirements of Buddy's Forever Home:
-No children
-A quiet home without a lot of visitor traffic
-Adults with small-dog experience in all the things that go along with them
-No other resident dogs for a few reasons: 1. Buddy has had some trauma related to big dogs 2. Buddy can be a bit territorial regarding the affection of his humans and other dogs don't appreciate the attitude 3. Buddy can be a complete pest to other dogs with his quirky and, quite frankly, annoying play skills (interestingly, he has ignored the cats he's been around thus far)
-Humans open to leisurely walks and some playtime
-NO DOG PARKS FOR BUDDY as a form of exercise for the reasons noted above.

Since his rescue on the road, Buddy has been neutered and microchipped, tested for heartworm disease (he is negative), vaccinated, and kept on flea and heartworm prevention.  He has also been very loved and spoiled by his rescuer and he comes with quite an assortment of "gear" in his "dowry"....think cute beds and leashes and blankies. Buddy's adoption fee is $150.

If you think you are the human for Buddy,  the FIRST STEP is to fill out an adoption application. Meet and greets do not occur without an approved application. We thank you for your patience as our volunteer-run rescue reviews your information. https://www.northmeckanimalrescue.org/adoption-information/adoption-application/
