It is very difficult to believe he is nine years old. He charges up stairs with no problems and doesn't slip on hard floors. He is ready to walk whenever asked and is an easy boy on a leash. He does prefer the sniff & trot method of progress but does not pull to go faster than his walker. We have not had him off leash much, but he has not been at all reactive to any of the dogs we have encountered on daily walks around the neighborhood or in the parks we have visited. He had a couple of off leash dogs run up and engage him in greetings, one dog very friendly and one not. He was cool and calm in both situations. He has been on car rides over two hours and is always ready to go out on errands. He also likes to have zoomies around the yard at full tilt. Buddy would dearly love to chase the squirrel resident in one of the trees in our yard and will bark a bit when he spots the squirrel. We have three chickens in a separately fenced area and he pays attention only when they raise a fuss. We did try him on the leash when we had the chickens in the main yard but he did get interested in them then. He was very good about laying down and ignoring them when asked. We don't have a cat and so cannot judge how he would be with a cat. Buddy is pretty good about being groomed with the furminator. He doesn't play with toys or fetch but is always ready for a belly rub. We have been able to get down on the floor with him and handle him anywhere. He does alert bark and sometimes growl when people come to the door, or the fence, often while wagging his tail. We are working on getting him to be less tense and happier about the door issue. His people in the past have taught him to sit, lay down, and shake a paw. He is not a cuddler but does like to stay close. He has to check on each person if they are in separate areas of the house and likes it best when everyone is together. Buddy is a housetraineThis is the Animal Description Footer
