Meet Bruno

Playful but mellow, Bruno is the quintessential velcro dog. He loves just to hang out with his people and collect ALL the snuggles.

HISTORY
Bruno showed up in his foster's backyard on New Year's Eve, and has never been claimed. Since then, he's started 2023 off in great style, quickly picking up on what his caregivers expect of him and learning new skills. He's mostly Labrador Retriever, but we're guessing there's just a smidge of German Shepherd in his makeup as well.

Bruno is in a foster home in Kennewick, Eastern Washington.

SOCIALIZATION
Bruno shares his foster home with kids (aged six and up), cats and dogs (including a litter of puppies). He's comfortable with all of them.

Bruno LOVES his caregivers! This dog is all heart, and he's looking for a full-time job as your personal foot-warmer. He can be a little tentative when meeting new people, but warms up fast and wants to make friends. He loves kids - although he's a big guy, and still just a puppy, so sometimes he forgets where his feet are and knocks small people down.

The other dogs in his foster home include a doddery senior, a feisty young female, and - a new addition - four young puppies who were dumped on a highway. He is totally submissive toward the adults, and is gentle and tolerant with the puppies.

He is intrigued by the cats and would like to get up close and personal, but responds fast when they remind him of his manners. He would do well in a home with a confident, dog-savvy cat.

GENERAL TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR
Bruno's pretty laid-back, even as a puppy, so we're expecting him to develop into a medium-to-low energy dog. He needs his playtime, and will be a good companion for casual walks and hikes, but he's also really good at just chilling. This is not the dog for you if you want a companion to help you train for your next marathon!

He loves his toys, especially the chewies ... and he likes chewing non-toy things too - including your hands, your hair, and any other part of you he can put his mouth on. This boy is MOUTHY - but although it's annoying he is very gentle. Remember, he's a puppy! He loves ball play and is starting to get the hang of bringing it back. He also enjoys playing tug with his foster sister.

Bruno can be barky, so he's probably not a fit for you if you live in an apartment. On the plus side, he's alert and has the potential to be a good watch dog.

This boy is quick to adjust to new experiences and environments, so long as his people are nearby. He handles car rides well, and was confident and relaxed at the vet and when visiting a friend.

TRAINING
Bruno picked up on the house rules and routines in his foster home pretty quickly. So far he's learned to spend nights in a crate without fussing, he's reliably potty trained, and he's comfortable on a leash, He's learning some basic commands - "sit", "off" (when he gets up on furniture), and "leave it" (when his nose gets too close to the kitchen counter).

He's a smart boy who loves working for treats or pets, and wants to please his people! Bruno will do really well with a family that wants to take him to school so he can learn how to be a good canine citizen.

HEALTH STATUS
Bruno has been neutered and microchipped, and is up-to-date on all shots. Our vet says he's in good overall health.

We estimate that he was born around May 2022. At present he weighs 60 lbs, and it's possible he could get as big as 80-90 lbs.

We do not have a facility. Bruno is in a foster home in Kennewick, Eastern Washington, and will be available to meet you after your adoption application has been approved. His location is listed as "Woodinville" in an effort to increase his exposure to potential adopters.

We do not ship our dogs to adopters using a third party. All adopters must be willing to come and meet the dog they're interested in, and take them home. Under some circumstances we may be able to arrange for a HART volunteer to transport a dog to their adoptive home, in which case the adopter will cover the full cost of the transporter's gas.
