Brownie's Story

This brindle sweetheart is exactly that - a sweetheart to his core. Brownie is mellow, incredibly submissive, and the kind of boy who just wants a safe person to admire him and tell him he's doing a good job. He'll happily follow you from room to room with soft eyes and a quiet tail wag, hoping for an occasional pat or a kind word. He's a sensitive soul who will absolutely blossom with a patient, encouraging family.

HISTORY
Brownie was found as a stray puppy with 2 littermates in Richland, WA. At the time that they were found, they were estimated to be roughly 4 months old. Since we don't know their true DOB, we have designated 3/27/25 as their DOB.

Brownie is located in Kennewick, in Eastern Washington. We share information about our dogs in postings based in other cities to improve their chances of finding a great forever home. He is well worth a road trip, and we encourage you to come and meet him before you decide he should join your family!

SOCIALIZATION, TEMPERAMENT AND TRAINING
Brownie is the definition of an easygoing, gentle pup. He could fit into many household types, especially those that understand he is still building confidence. He is dog-friendly, but he's a bit nervous and very submissive. When meeting new dogs, he is super shy or licking in their face begging to be loved. There is no in between. If the home has other dogs, they should be friendly, patient, and willing to help him come out of his shell.

Brownie was recently cat-tested in mid-November. He doesn't have a lot of cat experience, but during the test he showed appropriate boundaries: he cornered the cat out of curiosity and then immediately backed off with a simple "CHH" sound or by recalling his name. With supervision and good management, he may do well with a confident, dog-savvy cat.

He is fostered with a toddler and is pretty gentle - no jumping, no knocking over, just desperate pleas for attention or food. He absolutely loves human affection and will quietly beg for attention from everyone he meets, but in the sweetest, most respectful way. He makes himself as small as can be, and may even have a submissive piddle when meeting new people. His foster home is working on his confidence every day.

Brownie loves water. Truly. If you bring this boy home, you'll need a pool because watching him splash, flop, and lounge is pure joy. He also enjoys snuggling with his humans and trying to initiate play with the resident dogs, even if they aren't quite as enthusiastic as he is.

Brownie is around 8 months old, which means he is officially entering the doggy teenage stage-also known as the "I forgot everything I've ever learned but I'm still very cute" phase. Think of it as his goofy middle school era. He may test boundaries, get distracted by a leaf blowing across the yard, and have opinions about things he didn't notice before. It's all normal, temporary, and honestly pretty hilarious. With consistency, patience, and fun training sessions, he'll grow right through it and come out the other side an amazing adult dog.

HEALTH STATUS
General info
Brownie is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, sterilized, and dewormed. He appears to be in good health. Once full grown, he will likely be somewhere in the 50-70 lbs range.

ADOPTION
The adoption fee for Brownie is $425. HART (Hearthfire Animal Rescue Team)'s Adoption Policy
All our pets are in private foster homes. HART does not have a facility. For this reason, we introduce pets to potential adopters only after the adoption application has been approved. Our process involves: # A detailed application form, which must be submitted electronically # An online background check # Reference checks (calls to your vet, landlord, and at least two personal references) # Interviews with all the adults in the home (and, if the pet is intended primarily as a child's companion, we talk with the child) # A home visit, conducted at our discretion by a member of HART or a trusted rescue colleague Most of our pets are located in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco) in Eastern Washington, and we place pets only in homes within the Pacific Northwest. As needed we may arrange for a trusted member of our team to transport a pet to an adopter, at the adopter's expense. We do not ever release pets to a third party for transportation; we personally introduce every pet to their adopter. HART is a registered 501(c)3 charity. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue serving our community. We do not have an office or facility, and our team is made up only of volunteers. Our entire income goes to helping animals.
