Meet Brooks

NAME: Brooks
BREED: Pit Bull
BIRTHDAY: 2012
WEIGHT: 60lbs
ADOPTION FEE: $200

Brooks spent his Christmas in an NC shelter where he was marked as "the shelter favorite". We had a spot open and were happy to save that perpetually worried face of his. Brooks had reason to be worried in the shelter and on the plane ride to us, but learned quickly that he was safe in his quiet foster home with his foster brother, another senior male Pit. They have lived together for almost two months with no issues, although Brooks does need the help of an experienced owner to calm him down during playtime. He thinks he's still a young pup and can overstimulate easily, especially during rough play. However, he corrects easily and is a very devoted boy who wants to follow his person around all day into every room just to be close (too close sometimes- be careful or you'll trip over his loving but bulky body). He loves all people and will sit awkwardly close to your face and try to give kisses and even little love nips on occasion; not to hurt you, just to tell you that he loves you and wants you to rub his face and pet him. For this reason he would do best in a home with older/dog-savvy kids. He rarely barks, doesn't jump, rides well in the car, always has a wagging tail and loves a belly rub. He also snores like a bear almost immediately upon falling asleep, which will certainly help to scare away predators and/or burglars. He walks best on a front clip harness leash and LOVES going for walks.

He also came from the shelter with a mass on his abdomen which we had removed and biopsied. Unfortunately it was malignant and even though the cancerous mass was removed in surgery, the vet could not confirm that the cancer was totally removed. She did let us know she has seen dogs live for years after a diagnosis like this. Brooks certainly doesn't seem to know he is sick, and we have no intentions of telling him. He eats well, is active, otherwise healthy, and super loving: we think he will make someone happy for years to come. What we want most is to see him to go someone who will love him and let him be devoted to them, so that he can live his remaining days with a real family who will never abandon him again.

Although he lives with another dog currently, we are looking for a home where Brooks can be the only pet. He is not on medications at this time, but like all dogs his age/size he needs a daily joint supplement and may require pain medications in the future.
