Meet Brady

Meet Brady!

Brady is a stunning midnight black bi-color with small stripes of brown behind is legs. We were told he is 2 ½ years old but we think (and our vet agrees) he is much younger, more like 18 months.

Brady lived a very isolated life in a small apartment and was crated for way too much time. He was slow to warm up to new people. It took a few days in his foster home to feel secure but once he felt safe, he became very affectionate and puppy-like!

Brady thrives in a scheduled and structured environment. As with most GSDs, Brady is not fond of surprises and new things. He likes his daily activities known and on a schedule. Feeding, turnouts, playtime, chill-time and training time at the same time every day works best for him. When he knows the schedule, he will keep it for you and remind you what time it is and what activity needs to happen!

Once Brady knows you and is comfortable with you, he is very affectionate and will follow you everywhere! He is very nosy and wants to know what you are doing at all times and wants to be included. He does well on walks and loves to train. He would love activity like rally obedience or nose work. He will settle and sleep in his crate next to you while you are working or watching tv. He will wake up, check on you and solicit a scratch and go back to sleep.

Brady is currently in a board and train program and is doing great! He loves to work, and the training has built up his confidence immensely. He accepts new people more readily due to his exposure to multiple people and techs. When he is ready to be tested for his CGC, we will test him with his new family handling him.

Brady lived with an 8 yr. old child and reportedly did well with her. He has not been exposed to children while with us. We will consider families who have dog savvy children and GSD experience. All applications with be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Brady also lived with a pit mix and got into a few scuffles. We believe it was due to his person’s lack of handling skills and management. He is currently a solo dog in daycare in his own play area with dogs of all sizes and temperaments next to him. Some dogs he likes, some dogs he does not like. We have not observed any aggressive blow-ups, just the typical “bozo barking” when dogs are coming in and leaving. Brady may be able to live with a canine sister or brother but the meet and greet and the experience level of the new family will determine that.

We have not exposed Brady to cats so we don’t know how he would react. Brady has a high prey drive so we don’t think he would do well with cats, small dogs or animals.

We will consider families without a fenced-in yard who understand that Brady is not a candidate for off leash training. We will not place him with a family who plans to have him off leash in an unfenced area.

Brady’s ideal family will have GSD experience, be patient during his decompression period, understand his temperament and manage his environment, provide love and structure, and continue to train with him and keep him active and engaged.

As we do with all our GSDs, when we find a potential matching family, Brady and his trainer will meet with approved adoption applicants. If everyone agrees it is a good match, the family will work with Brady and his trainer to review handling and obedience work prior to taking him home. Once he is settled with his new family, we will schedule follow-up training.

Brady and his new family will get free training for her entire life at The K9Edge in Danvers MA. If driving distance is an issue, GSR&RC will help the adopters find an approved trainer.

Due to Covid delays, Brady is not yet neutered but is scheduled for the procedure at the end of June. He is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.
