NAME: Brady GENDER: Male AGE: DOB: 02-10-14
BREED Great Pyrenees & Karakachan Mix
LOCATION: Terryville, CT DONATION: $455.00
WEIGHT: 49.4 lbs As Adult over 100 lbs

Meet Brady, a beautiful Great Pyrenees/Karakachan Mix who just joined our wonderful southern foster along with his brother Ramsey. These brothers had quite a rough start, but foster mom says they are very quickly adapting to “the good life” and will be ready for their forever homes very soon!

Their story is sadly a pretty common one. Irresponsible dog owners who do not take care of, nor care about their dogs enough to get them spayed. This owner’s female was purchased to watch his herd of goats and became pregnant. She had a litter of 8 puppies, and instead of finding them homes he decided to keep them locked in a cow trailer! They received no socialization with humans, no daylight, and no fresh air to run around and play in. This heartless man threw food into the dirty trailer for these pups, but as the weeks passed it became apparent that, due to their breed, they were going to be large dogs, and he knew he could not afford to feed them.

Again, instead of trying to find them homes, he fed them less and less, until a kind neighbor began feeding them until he could get them help. It was only after the cruel owner confided in the neighbor that he planned to get someone to come over and “get rid of them” that the neighbor jumped into action. He found a rescue group willing to seize the puppies if the owner promised to spay the mother dog and this wonderful neighbor even offered to pay for it! It’s with the help of all the wonderful people out there that these precious pups are able to go on to live happy lives.

Several rescue groups stepped up to each take two puppies, and we are delighted to have Brady and Ramsey! Every day they are learning more and more to just be happy puppies. These boys are gorgeous. They have luxurious golden white fur and sweet faces. They now enjoy very much running and playing in the sunshine, and getting lots of human interaction and affection.

When choosing a breed that is right for your family, typical characteristics of that breed need to be considered. The Karakachen is an independent working dog, immensely loyal, and devoted to their masters, trying their best to protect their household at any cost. They have a strong smelling and hearing instinct that is instrumental in making them ideal guard dogs. Though not aggressive while guarding their livestock, these territorial dogs display a highly reserved nature while confronting strangers. Apart from their compatibility with children of the family with whom they are brought up, they will also be able to mingle with other smaller pets if socialized well socialized.

Frequently described as “majestic,” Great Pyrenees are big, immensely strong mountain dogs standing as high as 32 inches at the shoulder and often tipping the scales at more than 100 pounds. These steadfast guardians usually exhibit a Zen-like calm, but they can quickly spring into action and move with grace and speed to meet a threat. The lush weatherproof coat is all white, or white with markings of beautiful shades of gray, tan, reddish-brown, or badger. They are smart, patient, and calm. The Great Pyrenees is an immensely powerful working dog bred to deter sheep-stealing wolves and other predators on snowy mountaintops. Pyrenees today are mellow companions and vigilant guardians of home and family.

Brady is described by his foster to be a little shy and reserved. He projects a quiet assurance that he has all the answers to the world around him. He has a powerful, graceful stride, when he trots or runs; he seems to glide, with a little up-and-down movement. His gait is effortless and he is capable of trotting for 15 miles or more without tiring.

Brady needs an experienced family, access to a large yard, long walks or runs and an active family that have owned or experience with dogs over 100 lbs. As an adult, his breed requires a confident, experienced owner, one who will gain his respect and understands his independent nature.

Brady loves attention, is active and playful and will make a wonderful companion. He would do well in a house with a large yard and children they can run and play with. Brady and Ramsey have come so far and deserve a loving home where they are safe, have a warm bed, and are considered part of the family. Will you open your heart and home to Brady and Ramsey?
