Meet Boss
***Boss is scheduled to be neutered on 5/15/25. If all goes well with surgery he will be available to adopt starting 5/16/25. He is still available to meet and play with in the meantime.***
Meet Boss, the tough-as-nails Boston terrier who's runnin' the show around here! This little mob boss is mighty, with a heart of gold and a penchant for playin' rough. He's got a reputation for bein' one of the toughest guys in the puppy room, but don't worry, he's all bark and bite...well, maybe just a little bite when it comes to treats!
Boss loves chew bones, snacks, and treats - the more, the merrier! He's a bit of a foodie, and he'll devour everything in sight. Just be careful not to get your fingers in the way, 'cause this guy gets excited! He's had some issues with eating too fast in the past, so a slow feeder might be a good idea. He can be a bit possessive of his food around other dogs, so meal times should be supervised.
Unfortunately, Boss came to us from a rough past, and its left him with some emotional scars. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was very nervous, and didnt want us to just grab at him right off the bat. We immediately noticed that Boss was more comfortable around women, but with time, he will warm up to anyone! Its just important to take it slow and show Boss that you are someone he can trust. With Boss being nervous in new situations, he cant be left in an unsecured yard. A fenced yard will be a must to ensure hes not getting away, as when hes scared he is very difficult to catch.
This big red Boss of ours might be small, but he can jump high - and will jump right into your heart! Boss initially came in with another Boston (who has since been adopted) and together they were unstoppable! We noticed that having a buddy by his side helped Boss settle in to the shelter a lot easier. We believe that having a friend in his future home may make him more comfortable. We have noticed, however, that Boss can be dominant with other dogs. Like his name suggests, he definitely likes to be the boss! We recommend a meet and greet with any other pets in the home to ensure it is a good fit for this sweet boy.
We know that some people look for small dogs because they believe theyll have less energy, but that is not the case for Bostons! Despite their small size, they have plenty of energy, and need lots of activity to stay happy and healthy. We ask that future adopters dont just pick Boss for his size, and take his needs into consideration to ensure hes getting the best home possible.
Boss is going to need some training to settle completely in to his new home. He is not fully housebroken yet. While we do believe that getting him neutered will help in this process as some of the issues is Boss marking, he will need a dedicated and patient owner to get him to 100%. Please keep in mind, too, that with Boss past he will need a gentler hand to train him. He will not be comfortable with yelling or swatting, and you may need to adjust your techniques to fit this boys needs. Boss is extremely food motivated, and some treats will go a long way to get him to do what you want!
!f you're ready to take on the challenge of bein' Boss's family and give him the opportunity to steal your heart, then come meet him today and get him a forever home!
