Meet Bonnie - ADOPTED!!
Meet Bonnie. This sweet girl did not come from a loving, nurturing home life, but has a natural resiliency and is sweet as can be. Bonnie came to Worthy Dog after having spent her life living in an outdoor pen, producing pups. After she was no longer useful to her owner, she was surrendered to a shelter who quickly asked us to take her in because she clearly needed medical care.
Bonnie has spent the last few months in a foster home, receiving much-needed medical care to get her healthy again. She's gained weight, had her skin and ear infections addressed, had a full dental cleaning with extractions, and has been spayed so that her breeding days are behind her now. Bonnie is all about what comes next and is ready to start her new life.
Bonnie is best described as the perfect little lady. We think she's about 8 but she could be a bit younger. She has excellent house manners, is housebroken, doesn't make much noise, and is relatively calm. She is happiest either roaming around a fenced yard or snuggled up on a soft couch or bed. If that snuggle can be right up against a human or furry friend, all the better for this little girl. She's also fine with being picked up and carried and loves to be petted. She's a little taller than your average Chihuahua but at only 11lbs (and she could stand to lose a pound), she is quite easy to manage.
Since she's lived outside much of her life, she wasn't familiar with or enthusiastic about walks at first, but she's learning. Bonnie transitioned to a new foster home in Alexandria, VA where she's been getting daily walks and learning they can be fun and an opportunity to get out and explore.
While she's a little timid at first, once she settles in, she does well meeting new people and will jump up beside them and lean in to get pets. In her foster home, she is learning that people can be kind and loving. She was clearly abused in the past and is quick to flinch or yelp if she thinks she's in danger. She's not in pain, it's a defense mechanism that lessens as she settles in and trusts her new environment. She needs someone who can give her love, consistency, and stability so she understands that no one will ever hurt her again.
We're super excited to be able to help Bonnie leave the past in the rearview mirror and cruise into a wonderful new life. If you think you're the perfect home for this little snuggle bug, fill out an application today!
