Bad First Impressions
To know them is to love them!!!

And love them we do.... but one thing I have learned at the shelter is it is not a Disney movie.

I love commercials that show shelters quiet, and every dog looks and acts like a lovable cartoon. The reality is very often different.

We have had two dogs at the shelter for a very long time, mainly because of stranger fear. But once they are comfortable. they are very sweet dogs.
Bongo and Charlie, both require a very dedicated person to take the time to get to know them. Treats make it easier!

We have many volunteers who have earned their trust after patience and time. And we have gotten to know their true personalities, not the fearful barking when they encounter a new person through the fence (Charlie more vocal than Bongo).
They would both make very loyal companions (separately) but never really get the chance because of bad first impressions.

Bongo loves to go on long walks. He specifically wants to cuddle when it is time to go back in. He also loves to swim.

Bongo came to us after he was abandoned on a boat dock in Kentucky. Initially, there was a lot of "stranger danger" but he is realizing that people are ok, especially if they have cookies. Bongo is about seven years old and would do best in a household without young children.

If you have the time and patience, come on down to the shelter just to get to know them... it may take time, but they are both worth the effort.
