Meet Bogart

Bogart is an 8 year old, 77 pound Newfoundland/Collie mix. He is gentle, very sweet, and calm. You can't help but love this guy.

Bogart is looking a little worse-for-wear right now. He has a resolving skin condition (not mange, not contagious) that caused him to lose much of his fur. And that hair loss almost got him killed. While his fur seems to be growing back, Bogey has been through a really rough time.

He belonged to a homeless man. These two buddies took care of each other and kept each other company. When Bogart lost his fur, one of the locals thought he looked mangy and repeatedly threatened to shoot him. Ultimately, the homeless man felt there was only one way he could save the dog. To save his buddy he would have to give him up. He loved him enough to bring him to a shelter in hopes that he would find a better and safer life. A wrenching loss for both of them; both have lost their best friend.

Bogey is housebroken and loves being in his crate. He also seems to get along fine with other dogs. Bogart is recovering from an ear infection. He makes no fuss over the ear drops, but he doesn't like taking the medication. He is also fussy about his eating right now — when he doesn't like what he’s offered, he turns his back and lays down. So much change, so little is familiar.

Bogart doesn't ask for much - a soft bed and a little food when he's in the mood. But SCCR is hoping for a lot more than that. We're hoping he gets a new family that will love him as much as his homeless buddy did. Come meet this gentle boy on Saturday.

Please check our events page at http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org to find where this dog may be shown this weekend. If you are interested in adopting this dog, you must send an application or email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org prior to a Saturday Adoption Event so we know you plan on attending. If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along. :-)

The breed or breed mix listed for each dog is simply a guess. The profile software program requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog’s individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near Chicagoland... we are sorry but we cannot accept any out of state applications. We look forward to speaking with you!
