Meet Boa

I am Boa, a beautiful sweet Retriever mix that is blossoming into a wonderful little lady. Boa came into foster very timid and shy of humans but was love at first sight with her two resident brother dogs. With their confidence, Boa is becoming much more confident with house living, and would do best in a home with another confident pup and children over the age of 8. She is 98% potty trained. The 2% is when foster mom is busy and misses her obvious signals. She is crate trained, waits at door to be hooked on her tie out, loves being outside and playing with her foster brothers. Boa is becoming more comfortable with humans of all sizes and is learning to trust each day more and more. Boa will come lay on couch with Foster mom, (took 2 weeks) and comes for pets. She has started giving kisses as well. What she had learned and we are working on now is that anyone hovering over her is scary and she will back away until you are at her level. Once she trusts, she is much more relaxed. It took Boa about a week to not run from everything, she no longer minds the vacuum, figured out the basement stairs on her own, and gets up on every piece of furniture she can. Her foster mom believes it gives her authority. What it gets her is cuteness overload.
Boa will play with just about any toy - ball, rope, nyla bones, my outdoor plants, remotes if left unattended, and anything at toddler level. She told me she wants to learn to garden, so a bored puppy will show you her talents when left outside without supervision on her tie out. She learned what snow was and absolutely loves it.
Boa learned her voice. Its the cutest bark/howl ever. In this household, she has to have a voice. She engages the others in play from sun up to sun down. She is learning social cues from the big guy Rufus as to when maybe its not playtime. She holds her own with them when they play. Humans can take her toys from her and have not noticed any guarding of food etc.
Boa goes in her crate at night independently with cues and structure. She now knows what "night night" means and Foster mom can go to crate and she follows knowing she gets treats. She knows potty and heads to back door. She patiently waits to be put on tie out. She loves all sorts of dog treats and motivated easily. Boa is also a big fan of the ice machine and learned from her brother Bergie that cubes come from it. The second a glass starts with cubes, she is front and center. She knows the term cube and comes running with the other dogs. Its the cutest. Boa has a larger than life personality and is so loved by her foster family.
Her adoptive family will need to give her time to transition, work on training of a more timid dog, have another dog in the house she can learn from, and tons of love. She is good with kids as long as they are patient with her and give her space. Boa is good at knowing an escape route wherever she is. Its her security but improving daily.
She amazes her fosters daily and she will have so much love to give.
