Meet Blue Berry KY
Blue Berry is listed as special needs because she has IVDD. We are looking for a home that can continue being vigilant & responsible in monitoring her activity. Please read her bio thoroughly and to entirety before applying. Blue Berry is an incredible & loving dog and we want to find an awesome home for her!
What is IVDD(intervertebral disc disease)?— dogs bodies have little discs between vertebrate – sort of like jelly-filled donuts, that act as cushions between the vertebrae. IVDD is when these discs deteriorate (calcify/harden), wherein they become susceptible to bulging or bursting – especially with hard impacts (jumping off a couch, steps, rough play, etc). It’s always best if you can prevent a disc from bulging/bursting in the first place. With IVDD, discs become more susceptible to bursting over time as the outer fibrous layer hardens and loses its elasticity. Bursting usually occurs from some sort of impact or sharp movement, like wrestling, jumping off or over things, stairs, an injury, etc.
In Blue Berry’s case — her disc did not “burst” so a more conservative approach was used for her when she came into rescue almost 8 months ago. Conservative treatment involved a lot of rest and recuperation (crate rest/very moderated activity) with therapies like laser and acupuncture.
So currently Blue Berry has no issues. She just cannot jump off things, and cannot go up and down stairs. I carry her and also have a gate at top of stairs so she can’t just go down them anytime she wants. Blue lives a very happy & comfortable life. She is not in pain and does not require a lot other than attention, love, & VIGILANCE. She will follow you everywhere so this makes watching her easy. For example: I don’t worry about her jumping off the couch, because when I get up to go to another room, I pick her up and she follows me. She will not leave your side.
Her medications are oral metacam. She also takes hemp pills. And we do require her future home to continue taking her for a “tune-up” either for laser therapy or acupuncture every 2-3 months.
Blue Berry would do well in a home with or without another fur friend. She is in a foster home with 4 other dogs but mostly just wants company & lots of naps. No children due to her delicate back issues.
She is UTD, heart worm negative, spayed & micro-chipped.

The adoption fee is $300Please use the foster momma or dad's contact information above for questions.
The process always begins with an application which can be found at The Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee website
Note that in most cases, we do not adopt to families with small children, e.g., 'under 6,' as a precaution to the child's safety and the dog's safety. In some cases with larger Boston mixes or other dogs, we do make exceptions. Please ask the foster momma.
We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog. The East Coast division (NC/SC/VA/MD/DC) does have special transport capabilties for their kids. Ask them.
Also, submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you.
