Meet Blondie

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************

We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Blondie, 7yr old, spayed female, Pitbull/AmStaff mix, 55 pounds. Blondie is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!

Blondie had spent her life in and out of the city shelter in San Antonio...that is, when she wasn't on the streets having litter after litter. Most recently, she was saved by a shelter foster when her last litter of pups were all adopted but still found herself being brought back due to a chronic, unrelenting URI. Thankfully, we saved her after she landed on the euth list and treated her for what ended up being heartworms and pneumonia. Now fully on the mend, Blondie is looking for her furever home!

Blondie is an older gal but don't let her age fool you - when she has a stuffie, she's a wild thang! She will throw it up, down and all around. She knows how to entertain herself with her toys and will often stare at her stuffies like they're her babies. ♥

Blondie does live in a home with other dogs but doesn't seem to care one way or the other for her foster siblings. When they do interact, Blondie is very friendly although she can be possessive of her plushies, as you would expect. Her foster siblings generally stick to themselves, so her claiming 'dibs' on the toys has not created any issues yet. Blondie does hoard toys and wants to keep them all to herself, often purposely laying on them to hide them from her siblings. ;-)

Blondie has not been around cats but she does live with a young boy (7yr old) and done well, although she doesn't recognize how big and strong she is, so when she demands to be pet or comes barreling in for lovings, it could be overwhelming for a very young child/toddler who is unsteady on their feet or not as well versed in animal behavior cues. None of her behavior has ever been aggressive or out of malice but we'd still recommend Blondie for a home with kids who are at least 5yrs or older. No matter the age, we always stress homes with kids who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues.

Because of her early illnesses, Blondie has not had much opportunity for long walks or exercise but her foster mom notes she does well on a leash, walking calmly next to you and rarely pulls. She makes a fantastic deadweight though, and will sometimes put on the brakes when she doesn't like where she's headed (like to the back with the vet :D). Foster Mom also notes that Blondie has great recall and will stick close by even off-leash and loose in the front. She has helped bring in groceries and never left her family's side.

Blondie is fully house trained and alerts when she needs to go outside - she stares you down/at the back door until you get the memo. She is crate-trained but trusted to be loose in the house while unsupervised and has not had any accidents in the house. Her foster family is home more than they're away at the moment, so she has constant attention and access to potty breaks, so if her Furever Home has a different schedule, her family should grace her with time to acclimate to the routine.

Blondie LOVES FOOD and eats like every meal is not only the first she has ever had, but may be the last she will ever get. For that reason alone, her foster pawrents make a habit to feed Blondie away from the other dogs and to give her meals first. She gobbles her food down and is quick to sneak a treat from her lab and corgi siblings, but she's easily redirected. She's not shown any food aggression but it is always a wise idea to allow dogs to settle into their new home environment before forcing shared food encounters. Blondie may also benefit from a slow feeder or frozen/rehydrated food regimen to slow her pace of eating and provide mental enrichment.

While Blondie does well with her foster siblings, we think she would particularly enjoy being an Only Child. She is the definition of a Velcro dog and described as the cuddliest dog her foster mom has ever encountered. Sometimes you do not get a choice if you're going to give her pets/loves - she will demand them and take them anyway. She lays on top of you or will claim your arm as hers, if you let her. She sleeps every night with her 16yr old Foster Sister and seems so starved for love that she takes every chance she gets to right all those early wrongs. She refuses to live anything but her best life going forward and honestly, who can blame her?

Blondie's ideal home would have all the love to give, while helping this Old Gal learn a few new tricks - namely, how to be calm at meal time and to let her People have some space every now and again. She is super playful and silly but clearly capable of making good, calm decisions on her own - especially when it is "her people" giving her instruction. She desperately wants to be loved and praised, and is so deserving of her own Happily Ever After.

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
