Blini aka Blue Bluetick Coonhound & Coonhound Mix Cincinnati, OH

Meet Blini- now named Blue by her foster mom. She is one of the sweetest doggies even though she has been through so much in her life. We can't make up for the pain she suffered before, but we can do our best to help her forget!

This gorgeous girl is a Bluetick Hound who was surrendered to a shelter in West Virginia after she was no longer able to breed. They said she was 7 years old, but now that she is feeling good she has the energy and enthusiasm of a much younger dog so we are unsure of her actual age. She is on the smaller side for a Bluetick hound. She is 21" from floor to the tallest part of her back and only #45. She looks larger in her photos than she actually is.

When Blue was first placed in a foster home it became apparent that something was very wrong.

Emergency surgery was done, and we found she had an ectopic pregnancy and would have died should our wonderful vets not have intervened.

On top of that, she has a stubborn ear infection and is currently on antibiotics for the same. Despite her apparent lack of care she has a perfect disposition. She lets her foster mom clean her ears twice a day and she lives in home with two dogs without any problems.

She's been to the dog park where she first makes friends with all of the people and then plays with any willing dogs. This girl seems to know she's been given a fresh start and her tail is always wagging!

She is house-trained and while she doesn't like being crated she doesn't need to be, she just chills out on a dog bed when her foster parents are not home.

She absolutely loves walks and play time. She needs an active home as she is no couch potato. She wants to go for long walks, sniff, and explore her surroundings. Her home also needs to be willing to keep up on her ear care and any allergies she has. Right now she is on an allergy medication and Duck and Potato limited ingredient food from Natural Balance.

If that wasn't bad enough, she also tested positive for Lyme but that hasn’t affected her sweet disposition one bit! Lyme is a tick borne disease that is not contagious to other dogs or humans but will remain in her system, throughout her life.

Blue may have an occasional flare-up which would be indicated by joint pain/inflammation, limping, lethargy and possible loss of appetite. Typically a dose of antibiotics is enough to make the disease go dormant again. To help control the Lyme she will need a yearly Lyme vaccine. Should she have multiple flare ups in a short amount of time, her kidneys could be affected.

Lyme has become more prevalent in the southern states, and many dogs with this disease have lived long happy lives!
