UPDATED 7/20: After being returned in June, Birdie took a spill down some stairs and sustained a minor fracture to her neck. She spent a few weeks recovering, but is fully healed now (with no long term damaged) and is looking again for her family!

UPDATED 6/5. The first time Birdie was returned, it wasn’t her fault. This time it was. We learned the hard way that Birdie does not do well with cats. She lived with one in her second adoption, but sadly that family no longer has a cat…and Birdie no longer has a family. She just want a calm home full of snuggles and maybe another dog friend to play with. Her foster family absolutely adores her and says that she is a total sweetheart. We’re all hopeful that her third adoption will be her final one! See below for info about Birdie.

UPDATED 4/6: Birdie comes back to us through no fault of her own. In her first adoption, Birdie lived with 3 young active children and was crated whenever the kids had friends over. We think that environment may have been too much stimulation for her and that she would much prefer a calmer home with a dog friend to play with and maybe some older kids or teens to hang out with.
———————————-
Say hello to Birdie! This poor girl was found wandering as a stray in the cold.

Birdie is a 51 lb 1.5 year old flat coated retriever mix. Her gorgeous brindle coloring makes us think she may be mixed with plott hound, but we’re not sure since she isn’t telling us.

It has been fun to watch her transform from a shy and scared pup to an affectionate and silly girl! We have learned that she loves to snuggle and will curl up next to you or in your lap for all the love she can get. She will give you gentle affectionate kisses. She has also discovered that she loves toys and Nyla bones. She is completely housebroken and will go to the door when she needs to go out. She knows how to sit, shake, and comes when you call her. She is crate trained and is content hanging out in her crate while you are at work, but is also trustworthy when left free. She will be very wiggly and excited to see you when you get home! At night, Birdie sleeps quietly and soundly in a dog bed on the floor next to your bed…though she does sneak into bed during the night. Sometimes she lightly snores - but we love that.

Birdie is as sweet as can be and loves people. She will follow you around the house and loves having her ears scratched and her belly rubbed. She also likes to sit next to you on the couch and watch tv. She lives with two other dogs at her foster's house and gets along great with all of them. She loves to play, and is great at taking cues from other dogs. When another dog is done playing, she entertains herself with toys and Nyla bones. We think she would benefit from having another dog as a friend. She is not ok with cats.

Birdie does great on car rides and will curl up quietly in the passenger seat and snooze. She loves going for walks and does great on a leash. She likes to run around in the fenced yard, explore around the house, play with toys, and take naps.
