Meet Birdie

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION.

1. Children aged six and up.
2. Fully fenced yard.

1 year old female Chihuahua, about 9 pounds.

Hi - my name is Birdie, because I really like to watch birds flit around outside and they look very fun to chase! My foster mom says I am a super cute little girl! I really like people! I am very interested in what happens outside the window, and also if I see things move when I am on my walk! But I don't bark much at all on my own - sometimes my sister barks, so I bark with her a little bit. I like to play fetch with a little toy, and I really like walks and being outside, as long as it's not too cold.

I am learning how to only go potty outside and am much better than when we started. I sleep in my crate at night with a snuggly blanket to keep me warm and I don't cry. I like going for walks on my leash and love being outside seeing things! I like my baths okay, too! There's no cats here so we don't know what I think about cats but I think I could get used to one just fine.

I guess I am still sort of a puppy because I use my mouth when I get excited, and I like to jump on the other dogs and bite them a little bit too hard. If they growl, I quit, because it's all in play. I am very good - I don't chew on much (but I love chew bones), I don't dig but I am always interested in stinky stuff in case I want to roll in it. I don't bark nearly at all except at visitors at first, I am happy to stay quiet when it's quiet time, and I really like to be outside (when it's warm enough) and run around in a well-fenced yard. I like to see if I can climb or jump high over a fence to see more things, but I'm not allowed to do that! I would love a doggie friend and a fenced yard.

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
