With the ice-blues and bleached blonde look of his namesake, Billy Idol is one striking guy. He was one of 20 dogs transferred from one overcrowded county shelter to another in a single day, From there he made his way to the safety of STAF. Underweight at a mere 30 pounds, Billy was very skittish and on guard upon arrival--but our volunteers soon earned his trust and put his fears to rest. (He growled when we approached him with a leash at the beginning of the shift ... but by evening's end, he'd ventured up to a volunteer and proffered a quick kiss.) We know nothing about his background, but he appears to be more comfortable with other dogs than people. It's possible that he's lived his two-years of life outdoors with minimal human contact.

Billy is going to need confidence building ... he seems frightened with everything new. A family familiar with the husky/Eskimo breeds, and experienced in working with under-socialized dogs will be very helpful to Billy. Based on home visits with volunteers and potential adopters, we know that he needs a home with a securely fenced yard--to help with housebreaking (he seems very reluctant to "go" on leash) and to provide ample opportunity to work off his considerable energy. Considering huskies' famed escape abilities, fencing of at least 5 feet and/or privacy fencing will be best. Billy does great at doggy daycare, so another dog could be helpful for Billy--again, both as a housebreaking model and to help burn off energy. He loves a good splash in a baby pool outside, and curling up in his blankies inside.

With the right setup and a patient, dog-savvy family, we expect this guy to blossom into an absolute rock star of a BFF!

• We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs.
• Invisible fences: Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we cannot adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 75-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
