Betty Mixed Breed Philadelphia, PA

Betty came to ACCT Philly on April 26th, 2025, after a kind person found her near Lehigh Avenue and brought her to safety. They mentioned that Betty was a little nervous at first but quickly showed her sweet and cuddly side. She was described as friendly, cuddly, quiet, and good on a leash with just a bit more training needed.

Since arriving at the shelter, Betty has been winning over everyone she meets. In playgroup, she was happy to greet other dogs and engaged in some gentle, dainty play. Though she's quite vocal and tends to screech a bit when excited, her energy is all in good fun. Volunteers have shared that Betty walks beautifully on the leash, loves being outdoors, and seeks out affection with her sweet, soulful eyes. She has been a true joy to spend time with and is ready to bring her calm, loving spirit into a new forever home.

Behavioral Notes

4/30/25 volunteer notes: Betty was so sweet. She was such a good communicator too! She barked and stood by the gate of a play yard as if to say, "I'm ready to go!" She enjoyed sniffing, running a bit together, and exploring. Betty loves pets, and nudged or looked at me whenever I stopped to say, "more please!!"

Known History: Stray

Kennel presentation: I approached Betty's kennel and she was sitting with a loose body and mid tail wags. I opened the kennel door to leisure, and she did do a bit of leash dodging, but I was able to lasso her over the head. Then she jumped right out of her kennel.

Leash: minimal pulling

Handling: through the kennels Betty walked really well on leash. Once outside she used the bathroom. So I would say she's trying to stay housebroken. She was tolerant of handling, but did become a bit stiff when being pet. She would come over to you wagging her tail, but once she started petting her, she stop and stiffen up a bit, but still allow all handling. She did a bit of lip licking but as soon as I would stop petting her, she'd come closer for more pets. She said no interest in toys, but showed interest in play and would hop around with you. She did a few play bows and would play bark!

Playgroup 4/27: Betty was happy to greet the other dogs in playgroup and did engage in some gentle/dainty play. She is very vocal and did a lot of screeching in the yard.

Per volunteer 4/27/25: I couldn't resist but spend time with Betty girl today. She made my heart melt by locking her gentle eyes with mine in her kennel. She allowed me to leash her with no problem and walked so nicely. She loved exploring the outdoors and getting lots of pets. She seemed interested in wanting to meet other dogs and would wiggle her tail whenever she would see one. She was a treasure to spend time with.

Weight 38.8 lbs as of 04/26/2025
Vaccinations are up to date through 04/26/2026, including Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper, Parvovirus, Adenovirus, and Parainfluenza.
At her intake exam, Betty was noted to have a healthy coat and skin, clear eyes, clean ears, and healthy gums with only slight yellow discoloration on her teeth. She was lean with a Body Condition Score of 4.
No major medical concerns were noted at intake. Betty is friendly, allows all handling, and knows the command "sit."
