Meet Betty

MARR covers Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Betty is being fostered in WI currently. However, transportation is available for adoptions within our coverage area.

Betty is a very playful girl. She feeds off the energy around her and can be passive unless it looks like youre ready to play then shes all in! Betty has a strong sense of adventure and a fear of being left out. Because of this, she does show some separation anxiety. She will act out in her kennel, tearing up rugs or bedding and pawing at the crate but will settle down after people are out of sight. She easily goes into her kennel when you put a few treats in it. Betty is not aggressive to get out but will whine and paw at the crate until she settles in and all the humans leave the room.
When it is playtime, Betty will keep you on your toes! She will sometimes lunge, jump up and swing her paws, she has been known to gently grab your hand with her mouth. She thinks that childrens hair accessories are toys and will grab them unexpectedly, because of this, we recommend children over 13.
Betty is smart, clever and wants to learn and explore. She knows the sit, stay and paw cues and is working on heel. She is very food motivated; Betty can be aggressive when food is involved but not harmful. An active family is strongly recommended. Her foster family walks her around 3-6 miles per day and they have seen a big improvement in her behavior. She is an absolute sweetheart 85% of the time but will pull on the leash if she sees a squirrel, rabbit and bird. She loves any food but carrots, loves all toys stuffed and squeaky, will always be down for a game of tug-o-war, fetch or hide-and-seek! After a good play session, she will happily accept all hugs, belly rubs and head scratches then rest on your lap and sleep with people and/or other pets. She does a growl when she is excited in anticipating a walk or play, its adorable!
Betty is a VERY social dog but needs some social etiquette. She means no harm; she doesnt realize her size, strength, and ability to overcome another dog that is smaller, less energetic, or possibly more passive or less socialized. We recommend a home with large dogs and no cats. Even a dog trained family needs to keep an eye on her as she is sneaky, clever, and has an incredible stealth mode for counter surfing to contend with. Evenings spent with her chilling out on your lap are soooo precious, Betty is an absolute darling of a dog!
