Date of birth: 8/2014

1/22/2016: Bernie is a cute orange and white Lab/Terrier mix. He’s a year old and weighs 50 lbs. Bernie is super sweet and he’s playful. He LOVES to play with squeaky toys and he LOVES playing fetch! Bernie often spends time hanging out in an office during the day and manages to stay out of trouble and he gets along well with the office cat. He is pretty choosy about his doggie friends, however, so would probably do best in a home without other dogs. He’s taken obedience classes and knows several commands, and he’s food motivated so he would be happy to do more training! He never has an accident in his kennel so we expect him to be house trained or very close to being house trained.

Although overall very friendly, Bernie does have some fear behaviors. He is not comfortable with children so will need a home without young kids. A person with some dog experience would be best for Bernie. He also didn’t like the camera when he got his photos taken and he barked at it — until we gave him a squeaky toy and that made him happy and served as a pacifier! There are most likely other things out there in the world that Bernie’s new person will need to help him not be fearful of. More socialization and training will help this sweet guy gain confidence.

Bernie has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
