Bernie Basset Hound & Terrier Mix Manhattan, KS

Meet Bernie, a cuddly, energetic 11 month old hound mix. PPAWS rescued Bernie from a locked outdoor crate and he was starved for both food and love. He is getting plenty of both now in his foster home but his real dream is a forever family to make sure he’s never deprived again.
Bernie is smart and very food motivated and eager to learn how to be the goodest boy for you! He has already learned to sit and has good recall. He is mostly house trained but needs a little more practice. Bernie does very well in his crate and is quickly picking up leash walking. He is not destructive around the house (except to toys!)
Bernie loves most things, especially playtime! He loves dogs and humans but can be a little much for cats. He is an active, happy boy whose play style with fur friends may be too rough for small or shy dogs. He is a food gobbler (both his and other dogs’) so he’s currently fed separately, but hopefully once he fills out a little and comes to realize that he’ll always have enough food from now on, this will improve. He isn’t reactive and takes redirection without argument.
Bernie is gentle with humans and loves to spend time snuggling and getting pets, but he isn’t pushy about it. He will cuddle next to you on the sofa or lay his head in your lap and stare adoringly into your eyes while you rub his ears.
With his smarts and energy, Bernie is looking for a forever family that can keep him engaged mentally and physically as well as providing him with lots of love and being patient while he continues to learn how to be their best friend.
