ABOUT BENJI<br/>Looking for a goofy, big boy? Meet Benji! This 5-year-old bully mix is a ball of energy with loads of personality and is always ready for a good time. Benji came to HAP after his previous owners could no longer care for him. He has previously lived well with another dog and older children. While he was a bit anxious during his first few weeks at the shelter, Benji has since settled in and become a staff favorite. He greets everyone he meets with a big hug and slobbery smooch, he just loves being around people! Don't worry about his size though, Benji is super food-motivated and easily redirected when it comes to keeping his paws on the floor. He already appears to be house-trained, and we're currently working on improving his leash skills. Benji's absolute favorite activity? Zooming around our fenced fields and tossing toys for himself-it's a joy to watch! Benji has also participated in our Doggy Day Out program, here's what our volunteers had to say about him:<br/><br/>"We were so lucky to take Benji out. Despite the chilly weather and some snow, he was still eager to enjoy a walk outside at the Riverfront. He is such a goofball and is a joy to be around. He walked extremely well on a leash and didn't pull at all, he was so gentle. He was very friendly with everyone he met and was honestly a big hit with everyone. He saw dogs at a distance but didn't react. When we came back to our house, he was happy to relax and enjoy a bone from the pet store. Benji has such a great temperament and his goofball personality is really what won is over." - Beth<br/><br/>"Absolutely LOVED my time with Benji! Benji is so handsome and such a lover boy. He never made a peep the whole time! Jumped in the car, rode like a good boy just laying down or looking out the window. We let him run around for a bit and then headed for a nice long walk at Bellevue, he loved to walk and sniff! We saw horses, deer, squirrels and other dogs, even cats at the shelter, and while he was interested he made no effort to try to get to them and would keep walking. He knows sit and wait, and thoroughly enjoyed his treats! He's a big goof who just wants to play and love on everyone! We ended our trip getting him a hot dog at Jimmy John's - Benji approved!" - Jordan<br/><br/>If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
