Meet Ben

Ben is a very handsome dog, listed as a shepherd mix of sorts, who was recently rescued from a high kill, southern shelter after being picked up as a stray. He is a sweet boy and it's so hard to believe that no once came looking for him. The shelter workers say that it's clear someone has taken time to work with Ben to help mold him into the kind, mild-mannered being that he is.
This handsome boy weighs in at around 55 lbs. and he is estimated to be between 2-3 years of age. Ben is great on a leash and has a more independent feel to him. Although he is just a tad tentative at first, once he gets to know you, the more he is willing to open up to you, smile, roll over on his back and just relax and enjoy his time in your company. It doesn't take him long. Ben did a good job in meeting both male and female dogs. Off leash, he happily trotted around in the pen with others but it was not his preference to really engage and play with them. That being said... he does seem to want to play at times. He was however good about coming over to his humans to check in to see what was going on. So, it does appear that Ben would be fine in a home with other, mild mannered dogs or he would even do great as an only dog. As long as he has people to love on, Ben will be happy. Ben has a calming, "chill" outlook on life and the shelter states that he is one of the most polite dogs that they have ever worked with. We are unsure as to how he would do with cats at this time but we have asked for a "cat test". We will update with results soon.
Here is an UPDATE on Ben's cat test from his foster mom in SC: "He did fine. Like most pups he was a little curious but did not react."
Ben is already neutered, micro-chipped and current with vaccinations. He was recently treated for heart-worm disease and is well on the road to recovery. Ben will be packing his bags and taking his freedom ride very soon. If you would like to foster or adopt Ben when he arrives on July 17th, please submit the adoption application through our website OneLiveToLiveRescue.com. After your application is reviewed and approved, a volunteer will contact you to answer any questions that you might have and to discuss our very popular Foster-to-Adopt option with you. Ben's suggested adoption donation is $325 in order to help recover some of the costs of the rescue's ongoing vet bills. Thank you for considering a very handsome, rescued Shepherd mix!!
Ben has been adopted by his Foster-to-Adopt dad. His new name is "Milo" and he will be spending the "happily-ever-after" part of his life in Nanticoke, PA!!
