Meet Bella

GSD LOVERS - TAKE A LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY!!!

Please meet Bella, a 3.5 year old, 60lb, spayed female German Shepherd who was originally spotted in the area of Swink, Colorado running as a stray. The community members in that area tried for two weeks to catch her and it wasn't until a young girl age 12 saw her and was (finally) able to coax her into her backyard. The family kept her for about 24 hours before she was taken to the local shelter. The family had a standard poodle female and a small mix poodle female and Bella was able to get along with both of those dogs just fine.

Upon intake to the shelter, Bella showed a great deal of reactivity to men. In addition to clearly having had some bad experiences in her life, she struggled with kennel stress in the shelter environment (as many dogs do) and definitely was not thriving there. Bella stayed in the shelter environment for approximately a week before she came into the Pawsitive K9 Solutions Pawsitive Pathways Program through 2 Blondes All Breed Rescue. It was clear that Bella was going to need some additional training/support to move on from her past and into a bright future!

Once outside of the shelter environment, Bella's level of reactivity decreased dramatically. Bella has now been traiing for approximately six weeks and she has made great strides in her general reactivity and obedience. Bella is very smart and very sweet , but like most German Shepherds, he has high energy and ready to do a job. She sleeps in her kennel at night; she has never chewed up her bedding and has never had an accident! She continues to work on her leash manners and has made great strides in controlling her energy when directed properly by her handler.

Bella continues to meet a variety of people; her reactivity is now easily redirected with training when she sees a new person. Bella is now learning how to trust the humans around her!

We continue to work on building Bella's confidence (her reactivity was based on her extremely low confidence when she entered into the training program). Her training with her new owner/family will require Bella to (continue) bemg out and about to experience new places, things, sites and smells!

Bella gets along well with other dogs! However, her energy leval can be off-putting to some potential doggie friends and therefore, interactions should be closely managed and monitored. She will most likely do best in a household where there is a male canine companion, but integration may be dog specific/dependent and the rescue and trainer are willing to explore options. Bella loves to run and jump and play in the yard and is starting to learn that dog toys are fun! She also enjoys chew toys such as a Kong filled with peanut butter or a bully stick.

Bella rides very nicely in a vehicle and has never gotten carsick. She's able to go through fast food drive-through's without any reactivity and appears to be OK with younger children. She has not been exposed to children under the age of eight.

We are very happy with Bella's progress and would absolutely love it if she could find a home where she can continue to work on her building trust and confidence! If you are interested in learning more about Bella and/or speaking with her trainer, please do not delay in completing a brief, online application today!
