Meet Bella

Bella is a loving, high energy girl, who is Soooo unbelievably smart and would love nothing more than to crawl up on the couch with you. Her foster mom says “off”, and she respects that, but will Sneak up when you are not looking.

Bella will flourish in a quiet environment with consistent, positive reinforcement. She does need regular exercise and routine obedience as it is very good for her mind.

Bella absolutely LOvES to play fetch. As her excitement level can go from 0-60 in a flash, we have been working on “No Bark, Bring It, Drop”, which she has been very responsive to.
She also LOVES car rides.

As a German Shepherd, her bark is quite loud and she can be fairly intimidating , so a routine of having her become calm before answering a door or inviting people in, using consistent “Threshold Training”, would be very important for this lovely girl.

Bella will become attached and bonded with the right person very quickly. She is sensitive and so any correction to behaviour needs to be done calmly and consistently.

A home with no cats or small dogs is a must as she is not good with small creatures and is quite prey driven.

She gets along with her foster mom's 10 yr old dog who is her size but due to her girl's age and sore hips, they don’t play. "My girl does let her know when she is too much in her space and any growling or snapping usually comes from my dog. Bella will then try and ask for forgiveness by licking Kaia’s face."

She would be good with a calm younger dog, who is equal in size or bigger than her who can keep up with her energy. She would love a play buddy.

"She is not great at meet and greet, out on walks, so I am careful. But after a few minutes she is ok. I usually have to correct her at first as she does growl a little upon first meeting another dog.
We have passed dogs (occasionally two walking with same person) , who have acted aggressively, pretty much almost dragging their owners trying to get across the street to us, but a quick correction or word, returns Bella to a calmer state and I have never had her try to pull me toward them. Typically she walks on a loose lead but when I walk both her and my dog, she seems to pull more. Could be out of protection for Kaia or could be because we have to walk considerably slower with Kaia, maybe both. "

Bella has EPI which means her pancreas doesn’t produce enzymes to break down food. So she has to take a daily enzyme supplement and periodic B12 supplements. It is managed ver easily and she will live a ver happy, long life.

Bella's adoption fee is $700 which includes spay, microchip, heartworm test, up to date vaccines and complete vet check. If you are interested in adopting this sweetheart, please fill out our online adoption application at www.helpingpawsrescue.ca

Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is the inability to produce sufficient pancreatic enzymes to digest fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. This difficulty in digestion leads to poor absorption of nutrients which commonly causes weight loss despite a normal or increased appetite.

Dogs with EPI can live normal, healthy, happy lives if managed properly.
