Beignet "Benny" is in Maine's Story

Beignet or "Benny" just over a year old and weighs around 60lbs. He is a happy, healthy boy who loves to romp and play. He is sweet and wants love, he presses right up on you and asks for bum scratches, and make yourself comfortable, you'll be there for awhile. He is great with other dogs, but his play style may not be appreciated by all dogs.

Benny has had a lot of unpredictability in his life and he would continue to thrive in a home where the routine is predictable and stable. For this reason, we are looking for a home without little kids or busy teenagers. Cats are probably too exciting for him too. Benny will look to you for guidance, and he is a sponge when information gathering. He is a cool dog who is really fun and a joy to be around.

Benny isn't great on walks. He's fine on leash, but walks with a lot of stimuli seem to be scary for him. He is working on little walks slowly with training, and there's no need to push him until he's ready. He romps around and plays in a fenced yard and is pretty good at entertaining himself, and he's always up for a reward so he happily checks in often.

Benny is house and crate trained. He is at that age where he has been known to chew soft items in his crate to keep himself busy. He truly is a typical teenager who hasn't had the benefit of a lot of structure and guidance in his life so he's learning as he goes along, he just needs a little assurance and a lot of bum scratches!

Benny's backstory: Benny was found in an abandoned park when he was 3 months old. He had such a severe case of demodex that the only fur visible was a dusting of white on his head. Our Louisiana rescue partner thought it looked like the powdered sugar of their beloved Louisiana beignets, and the name stuck. Benny's fur has grown in and he's absolutely gorgeous. He does still have some scarring localized to his face from this previous condition but his skin scrapes come back clean and it's just cosmetic. He may benefit from using sunscreen while outdoors since he is prone to getting pink.

PLEASE NOTE - We will check your veterinary reference, to ensure that current and prior dogs have a history of being kept up to date on rabies and distemper,
Current pets must by spayed/neutered.

Adoption fees cover age specific vaccinations, martingale collar, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia test, worming and transport fees.

Adoption fees:
Through 6 months of age $450;
7 months to through 5 years $400;
6 years and under 9 years $325: bonded pairs are $500;
9 years and older $250: bonded pairs are $300

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning Pending Adoption. This dog is in foster care locally, ONLY if Maine or New Hampshire is listed next to the dogs name; otherwise, the dog is still waiting with our partner rescue for an adoption or foster home in New England.

Imported dogs are transported on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to getting on transport.ve had annual heartworm tests and are on heartworm preventative.

FOR PUPPIES: PLEASE READ!!
Homes considering Puppies must be prepared for:
Flexible Schedules for Potty Training. Puppies can only hold urine for one hour per month of age. Crate Training for the next 10 months to keep them safe from chewing on everything in your home. Supervision with Children and Obedience training.
Socialization; both with new people, children and other dogs outside of the home.
Homes that want a well behaved dog, must be prepared to put the time, effort and costs associated to train a puppy. Well behaved dogs are not born, they are trained! Please do not apply for a puppy if you cannot or do not have the time for a puppy.
