Beckum is a little older than 3 1/2 years old black cropped and docked male giant schnauzer. He came into rescue with his littermate brother but the two will be adopted separately unless it is to someone with lots of experience with giants. They have not been with other dogs so the next few weeks will give us an idea if they can be adopted with other dogs in the home or not. They may well be able to once they adjust to a new life and attend doggie day care every day.
Beckum loves to play fetch. He loves for the ball to be thrown so he can catch it in mid-air. He also likes to "spin" for a treat. Just say "Beckum! Spin spin spin" and he will spin for a treat. He will also sit, lie down and roll over. He must sit and wait before he is allowed to eat. He is use to hand signals such as Sit, make a fist with your palm facing down. Then push your had away from you toward dog. Wait is a flat hand. Beckum must also wais for the humans to go through doors.
He greets strangers very noisily and was placed outside when visitors came. So he still needs a lot of training. He walks well on a leash but not with his brother Rees. When another dog came along, he would start fighting with Rees which is why the boys would only be placed together under special circumstances. Other dogs do not get along with Beckum because he does not respect their space.
Beckum will do best as an only dog in a home with a strong alpha human who is willing to work with him and continues his training.
They just came into rescue on September 7, 2013 so as we get more information on him, we will post it here.
