Meet Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter came to us VERY pregnant. A few days later *on April 4th), this young pup had 5 beautiful babies of her own - Flopsy, Mopsy, CottonTail, Peter and Benjamin! She is just a puppy herself, and will need a home of her own once her babies are old enough to be spayed/neutered. About 7 more weeks.

Beatrix has only been with us for two weeks, and all during this time she has been either pregnant or a 'new' mommy. We can really only guess about her personality, as personalities can change during pregnancy. She seems fine with us checking out her babies, doesn't mind the other dogs in her foster home (as long as they stay away from the area where she has her babies), and while she really has not been in a position to show any 'snuggly' characteristics, we suspect she will be a typical lap pup.

Beatrix is a Biewer Terrier - We ask that you PLEASE read this article as there is a LOT of great info about this breed and it's needs. They require regular grooming (as in weekly combing and a bath every few weeks) and DAILY walks, as-well-as plenty of play time, to remain healthy and happy. They tend to have sensitive stomach's, so please be prepared to feed a good, quality food. If they get regular exercise and daily walks, they can live in an apartment. However, they are pretty active when outside, so while a fenced yard is not required, you will want a safe and secure place for them to play. Please read the above article for more details.

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state. However, if the applicant is approved, they must be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption donation of 300.00. This is a minimum donation and does not cover all expenses, as we are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum donation includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. This minimum donation does not even begin to cover the actual expenses each animal has while in rescue, but does go directly towards vet care for our rescue animals. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
