Bear Chihuahua & Miniature Pinscher Mix Washington, PA

Bear and another little dog came from a home of many dogs. They were both pretty scared, but relished the chance to be cradled and caressed by volunteers.

As Bear was just getting the lay of the land walking outside on leash in the first coupe of days, while passing nearby another volunteer with a dog, in a flash, the bigger dog grabbed Bear and he has been slowly recovering from this traumatizing experience.

Over the weeks, he has been improving ... slowly getting braver…taking treats from our offering hands but still backing away from some people. With the help of a "magic blanket" on laps, Bear has been gravitating to lap-sitting and cuddling with several volunteers, even offering kisses and burying his head into the many welcoming arms. It is slow and steady for this approximately 5 year old little boy to let his fear dissipate. He has proven to be housebroken and a pro at using pee pads when he does not have the opportunity to get outside.

It is recommended that Bear not be placed in a home with children or large dogs. He does seem to enjoy the company of small dogs, but a meet would be mandatory to make sure Bear feels comfortable with any dog. Patience and time are key to Bear’s recovery.
