Meet Basil **BLIND SENIOR, FOSTER NEEDED**

** BASIL IS NOT CURRENTLY IN PET HAVEN FOSTER CARE; SHE IS NOT UP FOR ADOPTION AT THIS TIME **

Basil is a sweet, big (70.2lb) girl who was found wandering in Northern Minnesota, all on her own. This is no easy feat considering she's blind. But, if there's one thing you should know about Basil, it's that she will find a way to be near humans!

The shelter staff worked for 2 weeks to find an owner but no one responded to her stray dog posts and they couldn't find any missing dog posts that matched her photo/description. So now, Ms. Basil is looking for a foster home that can keep her safe until she can find a furever home!

Please note - Basil is in an animal shelter and needs to find a foster home to transfer to. She is NOT up for adoption with us at this time; we need to find a foster home for her first, and none of our current fosters can take her in.

Since entering the animal shelter Basil has met other dogs and has interacted appropriately with them (she prefers to just chill with them!). She has met cats (she sniffed and then moved on) and she has met dog-savvy school aged children and did great!

But wait... there's more.

The shelter staff believe Basil was potty trained and crate trained previously based on her behavior in the shelter. She doesn't take treats very gently, which they think is a result of her lack of vision.

Basil is no young spring chicken - staff estimate her to be about 10 years old. But she appears generally healthy besides the aches and pains of an overweight senior. She may also need a dental after entering foster care.

What kind of foster home does Basil need? One where she has access to her human time and her potty time without having to do many/any stairs. And one that is willing and able to keep her on a strict diet and exercise plan to help her shed some pounds so we can take some weight off those joints and get her to a move comfortable spot. One that will not pity her for her disability, but will have compassion for the limitations it may bring with it.

Remember, fostering is FREE! We provide all supplies... from food, a crate, toys, to vetting and everything in between! You just provide the TLC & car rides for your foster pet.

PLEASE NOTE: all the resources (trainers, vets, supplies, etc) are located in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. We welcome foster applicants from areas outside the Minneapolis/St Paul area but you would need to be willing to make the drive for all your fosters needs. If you would like to foster but live outside the twin cities and want to volunteer for an organization closer to your home, we have a list of amazing rescues we can recommend; just ask!
