Meet Basil – The Sweetest Scruffy Pup Around!

Basil is a young pup who came to us all the way from a shelter in Mississippi, and she’s been stealing hearts ever since! With her scruffy little face and playful spirit, our best guess is that she’s a pit mix—but whatever she is, she’s 100% adorable. We don’t think she’ll be very big when full-grown, likely landing in that perfect medium range around 45–55 pounds.

From day one, Basil has been a total snuggle bug. She loves being close to her people and will follow them from room to room, happily settling in wherever they are. She’s smart, curious, and eager to learn—she already knows how to sit (especially if treats are involved!), and she’s making great progress on her potty training. As long as she’s taken out regularly, she’s doing a fantastic job at going outside.

Basil is also learning to enjoy walks—her first time out she wasn’t too sure and insisted on being carried, but it only took a few days for her to discover how much fun it is to strut her stuff alongside her brother.

This playful pup has a silly side, too. One of her favorite things to do is carry her toys outside and “bury” them—she’s got a whole treasure trove going! She’s still learning how to play politely and can get a little nippy when excited, but she’s easily redirected with a toy or a gentle reminder. Like any puppy, she loves to chew, so having plenty of toys around (and hiding your shoes!) is key.

Basil is sweet, snuggly, and so ready to find her forever home—a place where she can keep learning, growing, and loving her people with all her heart.

Adopters will be given a voucher to cover the cost her spay at participating vet offices when age appropriate.

We will review your application at our earliest convenience. If your application is selected, we will contact you for a phone interview. From there, we’d schedule a meet and greet with the dog to make sure it is a great fit for adoption for the whole family and any other dogs in your home.
