Banjo just barely made it in to the infamous, itty-bitty-pitty club, he is small but more like sleek or sporty. I think we will start a new club called the nifty-fifty-pitty club just for Banjo- he weighs 50 lbs and wants to live for 50 years so he is taking care of himself.
Banjo is loved by everyone that meets him. He truly is a favorite. Here are just a few of the many reason why everyone loves him:
"Banjo is one of my favorite dogs in the program. I think he's a good balance of play and settle and I really love that in a dog. When I bring him inside to do behavior calls, or just to write notes I can count on him to do his own thing while not being destructive. Once you bond with him everything is more fun, training, playing, and hanging out. He is amazing in his kennel, I always see him keeping himself entertained with a toy and he is actually one of the quietest dogs in the room. He loves enrichments as well and would be perfectly satisfied with a kong toy. As for appearance, Banjo isn't the most fashion trending dog out there, but I think he's the most handsome gentleman in a little tux." Angel k9 coach
"I am always so impressed with how great he is in his crate. We use him in rooms with dogs who are reactive, struggle with anxiety or high energy in their crates because Banjo is not reactive or bothered. He has no accidents and waits to be taken out. I frequently go in just to spend time with him through the kennel and he is always very still and affectionate even through the kennel. He is a great house guest. Self entertains in the home. Is so wonderful with kids and not bothered by anything they are doing. They could be yelling, jumping, throwing things, being wild and it does not phase him." - Olga Director of Behavior and Intake
"He's the cutest perfect size and I love watching him run after the ball and bury it. He's extremely smart and is so patient waiting for a treat or when putting his gentle lead on him for a walk. He is an excellent car rider and loves when we go to the park or stop for a pup cup. He is patient and tolerant when I dress him up for pictures and is the perfect gentleman. I fell in love with him from the beginning. He can be whatever you need him to be. The life of the party or an perfectly relaxed angel. I also love the way he makes eye contact with you with those big brown eyes of his and he has some of the best head tilts I've ever seen. He such a love and so silly!" - Candy & Lisa Veteran Volunteers
Banjo is very kid friendly and has been around kids all different ages, even as young as 4 years old. He is a total lover boy that loves to love and just has so much of it to give. He loves to share his toys with kids and play tug of war, give sweet kisses, and simply be apart of the family! One thing that is super impressive about Banjo with kids, is how well he listens to them! Especially if they have a treat. Kobe who is 4 years old told him to sit and Banjo immediately sat for him and was so gentle taking the treat too! He will need the occasional reminder about boundaries with teeny tiny humans and that a few kisses are just as special as the hundreds LOL. He just so happy and loving that he sometimes can’t control those kisses but no worries, he’ll learn quick. He's a smart boy and he fully respected when we did set those boundaries for him. It was cute because after he would look up at us like, "oh so sorry, I just love you guys so much I can't help it sometimes." Banjo would love to be apart of family with kids and become your kids best friend!
Being a toy lover and treat motivated translates into a highly trainable, self entertaining guy, two things worth their weight in gold for a dog lover. Plus, he learns fast! Getting his attention for a training session doesn’t take any work, say his name, ask him to sit, show him a treat and there you go. Honestly, you don’t even need the treat- it just helps. He has mastered sit and wait, which are great tools when its time to put a leash on for a walk. Once he hits the sidewalk he is in the zone, ready to get those steps in! He is friendly to people and has worked hard to not let them distract him if he hasn’t been given permission to greet them. If you’re at a cafe relaxing though, his gorgeous galaxy coat and expressive ears are sure to draw a few people over wanting to say hi.
Banjo is dog friendly and loves to play! He's all about play wrestling, play chase with his dog friends around the yard, and bringing bouncy fun playful energy to the yard. Whether he's tumbling with a buddy or zooming across the grass in a bouncy game of tag you're it, he's happiest when the vibes are silly and all about that fun. One of his best friends is a large confident German Shepard that is almost 100lbs and watching them play together is pure happiness and so entertaining. They are two peas in a pod. Rocky the German Shepard will rough house with Banjo, body bump into him, put his whole mouth over Banjo's head, wrestle to the ground with him and Banjo has the best time ever. Banjo also plays with Rocky in the exact same manner but on a smaller scale because he is half the size of Rocky. We weren't exaggerating when we said he's in the nifty-fifty pittie club LOL. Rocky's personality with Banjo's is a match made in heaven. They both play hard, fulfill that rumble and tumble play style of theirs, and both end up tiring each other out and ending a play session mutually. In a home, Banjo would be best placed with a dog similar in temperament to that of Rocky's. A confident playful male that loves to play, enjoys those wrestling matches, is up for a game of chase, and knows when to take play breaks on their own. So if you're searching for a pup that will satisfy your current dog's playful energy and wanting that playtime entertainment in the backyard, Banjo is definitely your guy. If you don't have other dogs, no need to worry! Banjo's love is boundless and his personality is out of this world that he will be all you need. Banjo would also do best in a kitty free home.
Banjo is ready for the fur-ever role of your best boy. Ready to enjoy walks together and create a load of wonderful memories, playing and exploring together!
