Meet Bailey-ADOPTED

Bailey is a Labrador Retriever, Basenji and Formosan Mountain Dog Mix from the country of Taiwan. He is 2 years and 8 months old and currently weighs 40.5 pounds (as of 10/19/2024); he is fully grown.

Bailey's rescued story:

At the end of April 2022, a rescuer who fed stray cats and dogs in an industrial area found a litter of eight puppies abandoned on the side of the road. She was worried that the puppies would run onto the road and be hit by the cars, so she asked two other rescuers to rescue the puppies together.

When they arrived the next day, they only saw seven puppies on the roadside. After searching for a while, they found a puppy had fallen into a nearby deep ditch and could not climb out.

These rescuers found that although these puppies were a little shy, they were friendly, so they believed that the puppies were born by a family dog; however, each of them was covered with fleas and ticks, it showed that their owner never took good care of them.

After being carefully cared for by different foster homes, Bailey and his siblings were arranged to be adopted in different places: some of them were adopted in California, and Bailey will come to the East United States.

Bailey’s completed medical information:

Fortunately, after careful vet examination and medical tests, the puppies were all healthy and did not suffer from any disease. They all passed the following tests: distemper, 4 Idexx (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma Phagocytophilum), CBC, Biochemical blood work, and PCR test for diseases and infections transmitted by fleas or ticks.

Bailey had x-rays on his hip joints, and they are healthy. He also had teeth cleaned on 1/26/2024.

Bailey is neutered, de-wormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies shots. He is heartworm negative and has been on monthly preventative treatment. All Bailey's medical documents including the x-rays films on hips will be given to his adopter when he is adopted.

Bailey's temperament and personality:

Bailey has a typical Labrador Retriever’s personality. He likes to snuggle up, paw at people and give kisses. He is a little shy at first but warms up quickly and becomes affectionate; he will hug them and want them to pet him.

In Taiwan Bailey had lived with a foster family that has two teenagers, three cats and many other foster dogs for eight months. He gets along with all of them but does not interact much with cats. He plays with dogs but prefers to be with people; he is a more people-oriented dog. He loves people and always lies quietly next to foster mom’s chair.

Sometimes foster parents’ friends come to visit with their little children, Bailey did not show much interest in children, but he was calm and gentle. Strangers or children can take food or toys away from his mouth without fear of being bitten. Bailey is not aggressive or possessive of food or toys toward people, but he does not like to be bothered by other dogs while eating.

Like most of Labrador Retriever, Bailey also LOVES food; he is not picky and always has a good appetite. Foster mom said whenever she gives treats to dogs, Bailey always patiently waits for his part and gently takes from her hand. He can be fed with multiple dogs calmly in the same room and will not aggressively steal other dogs’ food after finishing his own.

Bailey’s foster family lives close to a beach. Almost every weekend when the weather permits, foster parents take Bailey and several other foster dogs to play at the beach. Foster mom recalled that when Bailey went to the beach for the first time, he was very excited and non-stopped running on the beach for a long time. Bailey loves water and loves running and playing with his dog roommates on the beach.

Bailey is a little nervous in the new environment but adjusts well quickly. Foster mom took Bailey to a traditional food market several times. The first time he was quite nervous, but he behaved calmly. The second time he was much more relaxed, he would sniff around and greet people he met for the first time.

Bailey does not show much interest in toys and does not chew furniture either. He does not have separation anxiety and is not scared of thunderstorms, fireworks, or other noises. But foster mom recently discovered that Bailey is afraid of firecrackers when he is outside, but he is fine if he is inside the house.

Bailey is 100% house broken, walks well on leash, loves car rides and is well-behaved in the car. He rarely barks, only when he sees strangers or dogs outside the house.

Bailey is young and playful. Although he is not an energetic dog, he still needs enough exercise every day to maintain his physical and mental health. He will be a great companion for a moderately-highly active family without or with children older than 5 years old.

We hope Bailey’s new family likes outdoor activities and enjoys taking dogs for outings, day trips or vacations; we do not want Bailey’s daily activities to be limited to walking in the neighborhood or playing in the yard. We really hope that Bailey can be treated like a family member and participate in family activities, rather than just a family pet.
