Meet Baby Girl

Baby Girl is a 6 year old Purebred Chocolate Lab. She's about 60 lbs., and comes from a hoarding situation in South Carolina (and you do not want to see the conditions that she lived in!)

Baby Girl is looking for a special kind of adopter who will invest the time and patience she needs to overcome her fears. She has never exhibited any aggression and is just the sweetest thing once you earn her trust.

She continues to make significant progress in her foster home. She now ventures upstairs to check up on her foster mama during the night and to wake her up every morning.

After building up trust in you, this gal just wants to be petted and loved and protected from scary things. She needs a patient adopter who will help her feel safe, and can slowly introduce her to the joys of going for walks and meeting nice people. Let’s be honest; this is going to take time and patience, but you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful, sweet, loving dog who deserves a chance to be loved.

Techniques shown to us by a behaviorist have helped a lot in the progress Baby has made, and we'll show an adopter what to do to continue building her confidence. It involves patience, calmness, and a lot of treats. And yes, we have had other dogs like Baby that have successfully overcome their fears and are living happily ever after.

Baby requires a quiet home. She will not do well with a busy or noisy home, so no kids but visiting grandkids are totally safe!

Ideally she'd love a retired couple, or people that work from home even when (if?) this virus thing is over.

She's spayed, up to date on vaccinations, house trained, and although crate trained, she really prefers to sleep on a dog bed next to the crate. Strike that - she's decided the couch is where she prefers to sleep :-)

Baby's very gentle, and likes kisses and rubs from her foster mom. She likes that her foster dad gives her treats from his chair when he's watching tv, too. Once she's met someone a few times she starts to warm up to them. She now likes the lady next door, and even enjoys running the fence line with the neighboring dog.

Baby lived with several dogs before coming to Rochester, so she's fine with other dogs. No cats because we think they will scare her, but honestly we have no way to test. A physical (visible) fence would be helpful, but is not required, but absolutely no invisible fence for this gal.

A home with acreage or near trails where she could get out for some fresh air without having to deal with people and cars would be ideal.

This is truly the definition of rescuing a dog! Are you the one? She'll melt your heart.
