Meet Axel

Axel is a 2 to 3 year old male German Shepherd (Border Collie Mix? (best guess) weighing 70 pounds. Recently neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and receiving heartworm prevention. Axel is house trained, crate trained, and knows sit, down, shake, and has pretty good recall. He loves snuggling, playing fetch and car rides! Axel understands outdoors is for playtime and indoors is for manners. Axel is a quick study, who is food-treat motivated. He enjoys learning and would excel in a dog sport home. In short, Axel likes to play with his people. A family that appreciates a snuggly boy, lives in a single-family home with a securely fenced in yard, and is willing to complete (at minimum) a basic obedience training course should apply. Please read his detailed bio below:

Axel spent 4 months at animal control after he was confiscated due to his owner being arrested (in an incident unrelated to pets.) His caretakers at animal control described him as having an excellent temperament despite being kenneled so long. Finally he received his get out of jail free card and is now looking for a spectacular home!

Axel gets along relatively well with the three large breed male dogs in his foster home. He engages the younger dog in a game of chase, and likes to be chased. However, Axel tends to be a status climber (pushy, thinks the show is all about him) and does not share well with others. Axel can be placed with another laid back dog (who will roll their eyes and walk away from him.) No dominant dogs for this guy. Axel could also be an only dog. It appears Axel was the apple of someone’s eye in a previous life, and Axel enjoys the limelight. He gets along well with the 5 pound kitty in his foster home.

No children under 13 in his new home. Axel lacks impulse control and snatches the ball during fetch. His foster home is working hard on correcting this behavior, and Axel has made a lot of progress. Nevertheless, we are not going to test Axel’s progress with young children.
