Meet Aurora

UPDATE as of Nov 26th: Because of considerable interest in this dog, we are no longer accepting new applications.

Aurora is a sweet and playful Hound mix who hitched a ride from Arkansas to find her forever home. Though she’s estimated to be 2 years old, there’s a lot of puppy in her. She gets the “zoomies” occasionally and will take a few laps around your house using furniture as convenient launching pads. She also gets into a bit of typical puppy mischief and will need supervision, the way a puppy does, until she matures a bit.

Aurora is housebroken and lets a human know she must go outside by sitting or pawing at the door. She likes car rides, meeting new people and other dogs, and even a good play session with a playful cat.

Aurora enjoys going for walks – she is not reactive and shows her Hound nature by keeping her nose to the ground to make sure she catches every good scent. Being a young adolescent, Aurora has abundant energy and needs consistent playtime and mental enrichment to be her best self. This could come in the form of an equally playful canine companion or regular participation in doggie day care (or both). We have also learned Aurora needs consistent opportunity to rest undisturbed to recharge her batteries.

Aurora takes a day or two to pay attention to her humans (there are so many other things to explore!) but then is very affectionate. At 32 pounds, she’s a perfect mid-sized dog. She does fine in a crate as long as she's had enough enrichment. Aurora has done well meeting children but is not a good match to live in a home with young children because of her style of play and need for undisturbed rest.

For an individual or family who understands what a young adolescent Hound needs and has the time and patience to provide it, beautiful Aurora will make a wonderful and loving companion.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog.

Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
