Augustus's Story

I grew up outside. Day in and day out I was out in the heat...and so was my mama. Everything that she did, was for us. She already wasn't getting the best nutrition since she was giving so much of herself to care for us. So, on an extremely hot day, she left us. It was too hot. There was no shade. No water. She and her body could not handle it anymore. She went to sleep and never woke up again. That left my siblings and me all alone.

Finally, someone got involved then. They tried to find a safe place for my siblings and me to get us out of the heat. They reached out to someone for help and in turn, they posted for rescue help. This rescue agreed to take my siblings and me in. However, they ended up giving my siblings away so I ended up being the only one that came in. Just like that I now had a name. I had a family, even if it was only temporary. And I got to come inside and escape the heat.

I started out very withdrawn, I was unsure of where I was and didn't have my siblings with me. Within three days, I was full of energy and bouncing around with all the other dogs. I love playing with my people or the other dogs, but if they are unavailable I do a pretty good job at entertaining myself with toys. My favorite toys right now are a soccer ball that has lots of threaded handles on it, nylabones, stuffed toys, and hard rubber toys. I will chase after toys but at this point do not bring them back to my foster parents. I have been out in light rain and it doesn't bother me but have not been in pool water or sprinkler yet. I have not been on any walks yet due to my age. I am slowly learning what a leash is but will need some more working with. I am unsure if I would enjoy hikes or not once I am older. I am a playful guy, but don't know if I am a shorter walks kinda guy or a hiking through the forest kinda pup ;)

I am good with other dogs but may initially be a bit reserved with them. Once I realize that no one is going to hurt me, I am very playful and friendly with them. I am not being fostered around cats but think I would be fine with them given my age. I am not being fostered around any kids, but since I am a young and very playful puppy..the kids would need to be at least 5 years or older as I do still have sharp puppy teeth and claws.

I am working on my potty training, but have no experience being kenneled. I am usually in a playpen when my foster family is away. At night, they set it up in their bedroom and I usually sleep by their bed. I am still just a pup so I will grab things that I shouldn't, but take redirection well. My new home will definitely need to be puppy-proofed though and have lots of chew toys for me.

My past consisted of always being outside. It didn't matter if it was 100+ degrees, raining, storming, etc. I have adjusted to being an indoor dog very quickly and absolutely love it. I love being with my people. I love napping on a dog bed. I love playing with the other dogs. I love toys. I just love getting to be a carefree and playful pup. I am looking for a family who can continue to give me all the above. I am looking to be someone's forever and ever, I don't want to be someone's until. That isn't how family works. I am currently residing in Oklahoma City, OK. If you have fallen in love with me and are out of state, how about a road trip? I won't go on a long transport run, so the only way I am relocating to another state...is if we are in that car together ?

My adoption fee is $300.
That will include two sets of puppy shots and wormings. I will also have had a bordetella. I will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.

"Gus is a love bug! (He is not just a handsome face). He is active, loving, playful, strong, curious, adventurous, smart and a survivor! The ideal home for Gus would probably have at least one active dog that likes to play and likes to cuddle. He likes crushed ice and so he would like a good supply of crushed ice in his new home! He is social, so being around people most of the day would be best for him vs. having to be kenneled many hours a day. He would like a nice spot with an air vent to lounge on throughout the day! We think Gus would be fine with having children in the home and would love to play with them, but he is still a puppy so it needs to be understood that he needs training so he won't jump up on a young child and he does have puppy teeth still!! Gus loves to cuddle with other dogs and his people when he has worn down his energy level, so he is looking for a family that wants to play with him, give him attention throughout the day, and also lounge and love on him. He does keep himself entertained for small periods of time, especially right before he goes to sleep, but loves the interaction with others. Gus does not want to be left outside again for long periods of time by himself, since he was outside for his whole life in the heat with only his two sisters that we can only guess interacted with him during the day and night."
