Meet Atticus Finch

Atticus Finch is ready to share his story! ?

Oh, do not give me that look, folks! I know it has been over a month since I came to the rescue and that I am just now sharing my story. I know you have been anxiously awaiting to hear about me, but I needed to get better first. Turns out that being hours away from euthanasia at the shelter was not the only thing I had to worry about.

You see, when I was pulled from the shelter and welcomed into rescue I was not well. I was limping really bad, seemed really down, and like I had a cold. After my vet visit, everyone was pretty convinced that I had Histoplasmosis due to how much gunk that I had in my lungs and the limping/soreness I felt. It can be treated but it would have been a lengthy process. They had to send a lab out to get confirmation, though. In the meantime, they got me started on meds. A couple weeks later we get the test back and it is NEGATIVE! Along with that, I am a new dog! We rechecked my lungs and while I still had some gunk in there it was considerably better. Along with that my limp has now gone away, as well as the other symptoms I had.

I really cannot tell you what I had, and the vet isn't quite sure either. The good news though, is I am now ready to be adopted! I can finally finish my vetting this week, and am back to being a normal happy, healthy pup! I know many of you felt for me when I was just hours away from being euthanized. And that many of you scrambled to try and foster me so this rescue could pull me. And I apologize for it taking so long for me to share my story, but I am sharing it now! And I can only hope that you are still wanting to welcome me to your family!

My name is Atticus Finch and I am a 1-year-old, 74lb male Great Pyrenees. You now know my story, and now I am going to share what my temperament is like!

I am on the search for my forever family. And when I say forever I mean forever. So, only consider adopting me if you can promise me forever NO MATTER WHAT! If you cannot, then please don't take me away from another family that can.

-How can someone adopt me?
The first step is to fill out an adoption app for me at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app
Once this app comes in, it will get sent on to my foster family and they will help me decide if we are a match or not.

-Where are you being fostered?
I am being fostered in Broken Arrow, OK.

-Would I need to come to pick you up?
Yes, you would need to pick me up. This rescue does not send us on transports. It is less stress on us that way. Plus, you and I can already start bonding on the road trip home! ?

-Can I adopt you even though I don't live in Oklahoma?
Yep, I am not opposed to living in another state!

-What is your personality like?
Playful with other dogs, but friendly and laid back otherwise.

-How do you act when meeting new people?
Very friendly.

-Do you jump on people?
Not often, unless I am very excited.

-Have you been to any public settings?
Yes, not often but when I am in public I do fine.

-Do you enjoy walks?
Yes.

-Are you leash trained?
Yes.

-How do you do on car rides?
I do well.

-Can you be trusted with free-roam of the house when no one is home?
Yes.

-Where do you stay when no one is home?
I have free-roam of the house.

-Where do you sleep at night?
I have free-roam of the house.

-Are you a big chewer?
Yes. My life so far has consisted of being on my own, being in the shelter, or being sick. So, I am catching up on all the things that I did not get to do as a puppy. I am learning what is acceptable to chew on and what is not, though.

-Are you potty trained?
Yes.

-Are you kennel trained?
No.

-Do you like to play fetch?
No.

-Do you like to play in the water?
I have not had much of an opportunity to play in the water but I don't seem to hate it.

-Do you play with toys?
Yes.

-Would you do okay living in an apartment?
Yes.

-Are you a big barker?
No, but I will bark when outside if I hear things out of the norm.

-Are you good with other dogs?
Yes.

-How do you act with other dogs around?
Playful!

-Are you good with cats?
I have only had limited exposure to cats, but didn't seem to pay much attention to them.

-Are you good with kids?
Yes - I am great with my foster family's 5 year old and seem to love people of any age.

-Have you shown any signs of food aggression with other animals?
Yes, but I am getting better now that I know there is always plenty of food around.

-Have you tried to resource guard anything?
I did originally, but now that I feel secure in my home I have not been doing it.

-Can I hear what your foster has to say about you?
"We absolutely love Atticus. He is very affectionate and loving, and so gentle with our son. He is very adaptable and seems like he would be happy in any situation as long as he is with people that love him."

-What are you looking for in your new family?

I don't know. I have been through so much in my short life that I never really thought about it. I would say that I tend to adapt to new situations pretty well. So, I think I would do great in any home environment. I love other dogs and kids and seem okay with cats as well. I have good house manners, and besides a little puppy chewing am pretty much the perfect guy! A family that is looking for a bigger dog that likes to cuddle and hang out with them all day would be amazing! Unless there were other dogs around, I don't think I would be happy with my owner working all day.

-How much is your adoption fee?

My adoption fee is $225.

That includes DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordatella shots. I will be micro-chipped, heart-worm tested, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.
