Meet Athena (formerly FiFi Fiona)
Meet Athena (previously Fifi Fiona); a friendly and fabulous girl! Athena is an approximately 9 month old Shepherd Mix, and she weighs about 45-50 lbs. Athena came to us as a stray, her finder kept her over the summer in hopes of finding her owners but she was not claimed. Our friends at ARATT (Animal Rescue Assistance Team TN) helped get Athena spayed and we intook her once we had a space open up.
Her finder named her Fifi, which we've elongated to Fiona since she is an elegant cutie pie who deserves a name that reflects her perfect personality. Then her adopters dubbed her Athena, which she has learned and responds to. We are unsure what Athena could possibly be mixed with, however our veterinary team thinks that she may possibly be Shepherd, Australian Cattle Dog/Heeler, Doberman, Pit Bull, or Hound Mix.
Athena gets along great with other dogs and she loves to play! She is currently being housed with Sparrow (also on Petfinder), and the two are getting along perfectly. Sparrow has shown Athena all of the great things rescue life has to offer, and taught her how to use the dog door in our indoor/outdoor runs. Aside from Sparrow, Athena has met several other dogs in rescue care. She has not had a spat with anyone yet, and is generally very easy going bordering submissive with other dogs. She is very playful and can come across as annoying to some of the older grumpy dogs.
Athena has been adopted and unfortunately returned due to not adjusting well into their home. She has quite a bit of puppy energy and will chew inappropriate things (even while crated, she will pull items into her crate if she can reach them). Her adopters decided to return for her safety and theirs; Athena's targeted items included their daughter's medical supplies, mop water with bleach or cleaner mixed in, brilo pads, and much more despite having an abundance of appropriate toys to play with.
Athena loves to play outside and would greatly benefit from a home with a secure fenced yard for her to burn off some excess energy (she was unable to get a lot of running around time with her previous adopters).
She was overly curious with the adopter's cats and would pester them when they were not separated. Athena was starting to develop a prey drive towards the cats when they would run or hide. She would do best in a home without cats.
Athena is just about crate trained and is learning our potty training schedule. She is a smart girl and would likely train well with some good consistency. Athena is learning to walk on leash without pulling, and rides well while crated. She does jump up to greet people and will shower you with kisses, we are working on her "off" command and trying to curb the jump greeting. Athena gets very excited to meet new friends!
If you are looking for a super sweet and active gal to join your family, set up a meet-n-greet with the awesomely affectionate Athena!
